"We had Cutting Edge Remodeling put in a new tile backsplash in our kitchen. It turned out great! The project was easy to schedule, and was completed in a reasonable amount of time. Clean up each day was perfect. We love our new kitchen and would not hesitate to hire again for other projects."

"Kitchen backsplash removed and new tile backsplash installed. Quality workmanship. Tanya, who provided the estimate and coordinated the project, was great to work with. I felt a high level of trust working with her."

"Ross is very professional. He kept me up to date with the floor project at all times. He answered emails/ texts promptly. If I had problems, he fixed them. Any trouble spots, he kept me informed with cost and time. The gist was very reasonable. I would have him do any home improvement jobs!!"

"I was extremely impressed by the work of Twin City Handyman. I had a complicated retiling job that turned into a full remodel. I live in an older house with a bathroom that has a large window inside the shower. The window hadn't been sealed properly so water was seeping into the wall causing damage to the backer board and tile. Jeff from Twin City Handyman stripped the bathroom down to the studs and then Joe was brought in to work on plumbing, hang new drywall, install a ceiling fan, retile, paint, etc. Everyone was friendly and professional. I also appreciated Joe's attention to detail. I would definitely recommend this business to anyone looking for help remodeling."

"I contacted Xpres and received a quick response by Roxy, one of its designers. We scheduled a visit to inspect the kitchen, take measurements, photos. She also requested a list of the new appliances we had already ordered to ensure correct measurements for the countertops and to get a good countertop match. In addition to visiting the Plymouth showroom, we also toured other facilities as recommened to see a larger selection of modern counter replacement products and kitchen sinks and faucets. The proposals were sent ahead of time and reviewed 1:1. Working within our budget was respected and the payment process was fair. Dave, the manager, was on site during installations, communicated easily with the workers, and he was onsite to check the work on completion. In tandem, Dani, the project manager coordinated the schedules for plumbing, electrical, and kitchen counter backsplash measuring, ordering product and installations. Great team work. My husband and I highly recommend Xpres!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The best types of tiles for a shower are ceramic and porcelain tiles. These materials are durable, water-resistant, and easy to maintain, making them ideal for wet environments. Porcelain tiles are slightly more durable than ceramic. Both options come in a wide variety of styles, so you can achieve the perfect look for your bathroom.

While you shouldn’t use thinset mortar on its own as a floor leveler, it can work alongside other products to help level floors. For instance, you could start with a self-leveling compound, let that dry, then apply backer board with thinset mortar to help fully even out the floors ahead of laying tile.

You have creative freedom when it comes to your tile trim. If, however, you are considering skipping tile trim, please think twice about that. It is good practice to install tile trim, whether on walls or flooring. Think, too, about the aesthetic you are going for and choose a trim type and color that will help enhance the space.

Yes, even if you’re being careful, removing tile can damage your drywall to some degree. However, you can minimize the damage done to it by eliminating a majority of the grout and taking your time prying each tile off. Also, it's worth noting that you might have more drywall damages to deal with if your tile is set into the mortar.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.
