"We chose Standard Plumbing and Heating on the recommendation of a friend who had a new furnace and water heater installed as well as the great reviews we found online. Standard Plumbing and Heating was so professional and helpful. Cody came to our home to look at our existing units and to help us understand which furnace and water heater would be the best for our home. He was prompt, extremely knowledgable and personable. The installers were kind and courteous and made sure to protect our carpet and walls while carrying and installing the new furnace and water heater. The communication, customer service, and installation were first rate; and we will be recommending Standard Heating and Cooling to our friends and family. We also appreciate that it is a local, family-owned business with long history and substantial ties to our community."

"This guy Vitale is great! He was very knowledgeable and honest! He did not try to tell me I need a new furnace like the other companies, even though that is mostly his business (installing new systems). He fired up my furnace and said I can definitely keep using my current furnace if I want to...that it was not necessary to replace it. If I decide to get a new furnace, I'm using him for sure!"

"Steve & Chris did a very nice job at installing ductwork for a future bedroom. They completed the job quickly, they were very professional and cleaned up after themselves very nicely. From my perspective their pricing for the job was right on. I would definitely recommend them to anyone!"

"This report actually covers two visits. We had the two toilets installed in November 2009 and the rest of the stuff in March 2010. Based on reports on Randy Lane & Sons on Angie's List, we specifically chose Donnie to install our toilets. On the first visit for the toilet installation Donnie came with an apprentice plumber. The apprentice plumber installed the basement toilet and Donnie installed the main bathroom toilet. Both original toilets had not been installed properly--so both took extra time to prep before the new toilets could be installed. They were able to accommodate us during the basement toilet install while we finished putting down some tile squares in the area that the original toilet was before the new one was installed. Donnie was great. When there were any installation considerations, he would let us know what the options were. He was friendly, considerate, came in the time frame they said he would come, and also called when he was about 15 minutes out. He mentioned that he works mainly in older homes so he was able to quickly resolve any problems without much hesitation. During his first visit we showed him what we wanted him to do on his next visit. We followed that up with an email showing him pictures of the items that we were going to purchase. He reviewed them and promptly got back to us. That was very valuable to us as he told us what wouldn't work--that saved us money and not having the hassle of returning something."

"The installation was fine. The guys were pleasant. It was quick and they did a good job. Afterwards I found out they installed an auto thermostat that was more expensive. I chose to pay the extra and keep it."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

The average cost to replace or install a new HVAC system is around $7,500. However, the price can range from $5,000 to $12,500, depending on factors like the size of your home, the type and brand of the unit, and your specific heating and cooling needs. If you only need to replace certain components, the cost will be lower; for example, a new AC unit can cost between $2,200 and $5,500, while a new furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000. If additional work like new ductwork is required, the total cost could be as high as $22,000. It's best to contact a local HVAC company for an accurate quote.

You should get anywhere from three to five quotes for HVAC replacement to get an idea of the average cost of a new unit. Although this quote-collecting process can be time consuming, it allows you to compare what work is required, what type of unit you should install, and how much you should expect to pay for the service.

You can use a boiler and a furnace, although it’s not common to use both for whole-house heating. For example, your furnace may take care of HVAC heating through your vents, while a boiler powers your floor-based radiant heating in the bathrooms. Mixing and matching like this gives homeowners a variety of heating possibilities.

Costs range from $3,000 to $7,500, depending on system size and efficiency.
