"Brian spent the extra time to make sure I understood when filters need to be changed, when the water heater needs to be flushed, and general maintenance on the a/c unit. He is very personable and easy to talk to."

"This company has treated me well, especially Mike Museus, who worked over a year (last summer and this spring) to find out why there was a fluid leak in my new AC unit. The leak didn't affect the cooling of my home so I wasn't concerned, but Mike was persistent, even to returning finally with an "expert" to help diagnose the problem. What they found was that the A-coil above the furnace was full of tiny pinholes. On the day this was to be replaced, Steve came before 9 a.m. to remove the defective A-Coil and install the new one. He worked on it all day, without lunch or a break, leaving shortly after 5 p.m. There was no charge, as it was still under warranty. With all that, he still took the time to explain to me why the replacement was so important: that the defective A-Coil could eventually leak enough to damage the furnace below it. Because he was using solder, I believe, to install the new part, he turned on the ceiling fan in the adjacent room to mitigate the fumes. My only complaint is that a few of my vinyl floor tiles were damaged/discolored by the soldering process. That part of the flooring has had water damage before and is missing a few tiles so, after a day of hard work, he may have attributed the damage to work done before. It's not a big deal; I just wish he'd have said something. I have to hand it to Steve, though; he was working by himself, which frequently required him to leave the furnace area to check the outdoor AC unit, then rush back to the indoor work. I think it might have been a two-person job. At least, an assistant could have facilitated some of the work done."

"In 2015, my wife and I built our dream home and final home that we will retire in, on some acreage out in Sherburne County. We decided to general contract the entire project ourselves. Both my wife and I have had a fair amount of building experience, so we knew what we were looking for in our HVAC sub-contractor. First and foremost, we wanted a quality contractor that has been in the business for a while, who had a good reputation for their work, and just as important a good reputation for their follow-up service work. We did not want a taillight warrant from our HVAC installer because we were going GEO Thermal this time. These systems are not only costly to put in initially, but they are very labor intensive to put in as well, and require a fair amount of excavation. We could not afford to go with the B-Team to install this system in our new home. After doing our research on the company that had the best reputation around for quality installation and service, we settled on H&S Heating. They had been in the business for years and have done several GEO Thermal system installs. I met with the owner Jason and we sat down and discussed the RIGHT system to put in, not the cheapest or the most expensive. He provided us with an analysis of what the system would initially cost, the federal rebate tax incentives (30% of cost), and what the ultimate pay back would be in years before the system would be paid off and we were making money when compared to a traditional HVAC system. Even though the system was about twice as expensive to but in compared to a traditional forced air furnace and A/C unit, in the long run, it was only about $10,000 more once we factored in the federal rebate and Connexus Energy rebates. We figured the pay off would be 3-5 years, which made this a no brainer for my wife and I to factor this in on the project. We told Jason up front that we were going energy efficient with this house, which included the HVAC system, hot water system, spray foam insulation, windows, lighting, etc... It would cost us a little more money up front, but in our retirement years, it would pay us back ten-fold. Jason and his entire crew were great to work with. If they said they were going to be there, they were there, and on time every time. This was extremely important to us because we could not afford to be off on our schedule. As in all projects of this magnitude, we had go backs for minor things that needed to be taken care of. Any time I called, they were there immediately and took care of the minor issues that came up. That is the follow-up service we were looking for! Jason told us up front that he would not be the cheapest in town, but it was more important for us to have quality installation and service with no headaches once everyone was packed up and they left our building site with their check in hand, because that is when it REALLY matters. Even the Building Inspector commented on how great a j"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are a few things you can do to make your AC repair technician’s job easier and your home more comfortable while you wait for AC repair:

  • Cut back trees, shrubs, and weeds around the outdoor compressor

  • Clear a pathway inside and outside to your AC components

  • Set up a ladder for attic access if necessary

  • Pull your window AC out of the window and place in an easily accessible spot

  • Supplement with fans and open windows to help keep your house comfortable

Excessive humidity in a room often manifests through visible signs like condensation on windows or walls, a musty or damp odor lingering in the air, peeling wallpaper or paint, and the presence of mold or mildew. Experiencing discomfort due to a consistently clammy or sticky feeling can also indicate high humidity levels.

If your drain line is clogged, your AC might stop cooling, shut down, or refuse to turn on at all. Otherwise, you might see your AC leaking water, find standing water or water damage near the unit, or notice a musty smell coming out of your air conditioner or vents.

In most cases, you should hire a professional to carry out services on your HVAC system, as the components are complicated, expensive, and potentially dangerous to work with. However, there are a few things you can do on your own to keep your HVAC system in good condition, including changing your filters every three months, keeping the area around your outdoor condenser clear of debris and plant growth, making sure your or intakes aren’t blocked, and keeping an eye out for increased energy bills, strange noises, and unusual odors related to your equipment.

Yes, running your air conditioning unit too cold can cause condensation in the air ducts and built up moisture on the air filter, resulting in a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Mold and mildew growth can irritate those with respiratory issues, so it’s best to keep your AC running at a normal temperature.
