"Excellent work. Friendly staff. Thoughtful discussion as to what glass to install in car. Kept to promised delivery time (one day service). Filed all paperwork with insurance company. Car was returned clean, no installation scraps on car. Service bays and office clean and neat."

"The job was adequate for the exterior walls and soffits, when painting around large windows they cut corners and didn't do what was quoted and the paint was already peeling after the fist day. They did come back but still didn't fix everything that was discussed. Brennan was not professional when trying to move the scheduled start day and argued with us on multiple occasions with the schedule. Brennan didn't do what he said he would with communication with us and when we questioned the work that was completed he actually yelled at us. I will never use this company again and cannot recommend them to anyone else."

"Patera's was great.  They responded to the purchase of the Angie's List Coupon quickly. The appointment was scheduled in a very reasonable amount of time (which I know can be tricky with the volume of coupons that get purchased). Cleaners called when they were on the way and were punctual with the scheduled appointment window.  They were efficient, personable and did a nice job in the house.  We were very satisfied with Patera's!

"We were very pleased with the outcome of our tile. We purchased very expensive glass tile and were very picky about who we choose to install it. Paul and his crew did a great job at a really great price and we couldn't be happier!"

Glass Block Windows questions, answered by experts

Glass block windows aren’t fire hazards; fire-rated glass block windows can increase your home’s fire safety. Modern glass blocks are made with materials that can resist high temperatures and prevent fire spread. Most offer a 45-minute fire rating, while some increase it to two hours. Compared to the typical 20 to 90 minute rating for a double-pane window, glass block can increase your home’s safety in the event of a fire.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

Options include tempered, laminated, and tinted glass for various needs.

Regular cleaning with non-abrasive cleaners helps prevent buildup and maintains clarity.
