"Went fine. Was irritated that the representative completely unlocked the front door, sealed it up behind plastic so I couldn't easily see it, and left it unlocked and even left the outer screen door open/unlocked. If I hadn't consciously opened the plastic containment and checked, my house would have been completely unlocked and vulnerable to burglary."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Mold on window sills is common, especially in damp or poorly ventilated areas. Windows are prone to condensation, which creates the moisture mold needs to grow. Dust, dirt, and other debris on the sills can further feed mold spores. While it’s not unusual, it should be addressed quickly to prevent further growth and potential health risks.

You’ve stored your coats away all summer long, but now that the temperatures drop, you notice they smell weird as you pull them from storage. What’s the deal? If your clothes smell weird after you stored them, they may have been in a moist, dark environment for several weeks or months. This environment is ideal for mildew growth, which can make clothes smell musty.

Removing mold yourself can be dangerous. Always wear protective gear to cover your skin, face, and eyes, and wear a respiratory mask to protect your lungs. It is most recommended to only remove small areas of mold on your own and leave large mold growth to professionals. Mold growth can also be persistent. Without addressing the root cause, DIY surface cleaning can be ineffective and temporary.

Rust in your bathtub occurs when iron in the water or on metal components in your tub are exposed to oxygen, but while it’s unsightly, it won’t make bathing dangerous. However, if the rust appears under or around your tub spout or shower head, it could indicate that you have high levels of iron in your water. Drinking water with small amounts of iron in it usually doesn’t pose a health risk, but you might want to consider installing a water softener. The presence of iron could indicate that you have hard water, which can create some plumbing issues.

Yes, both mold and mildew can grow under outdoor rugs if they are exposed to water or humidity for a prolonged period of time. This is why frequently cleaning an outdoor rug and checking its state is important.
