"Donald and his crew at Grain did an EXCELLENT job installing our new hardwood floors. We were very impressed with the craftsmanship and how easy Donald and his team were to work with. They were reliable, professional and produced a beautiful final product. They cleaned up very nicely after each work day as well. Thank you Donald and co. Job well done! -JD"

"Never have I had such a good experience with any home cleaning service! The crew (3 people) arrived on time, smiling and ready to work. The crew leader first asked about my priorities and I walked them through the house to discuss this. The entire crew had excellent communication, great personalities, and were focused. I felt 100% comfortable with having them in my home. I have 3 dogs, 3 cats and lots of flooring to clean. They finished right on time and my home looked amazing. One plus, they used a 100% natural oil based cleaning product that left my home with the most amazing smell. I've sense then thrown out all of my chemical cleaners and purchased some on my own:) Just purchased another cleaning service and will continue to have them back regularly."

Floor Cleaning and Waxing questions, answered by experts

Polishing a concrete floor isn’t as expensive as it sounds—it’s actually one of the more budget-friendly upscale flooring options out there. On average, it costs $4,500, with most projects falling between $1,000 and $8,000 . When you’re working with an existing slab of concrete, you skip material costs entirely, so it’s even more affordable. If you want a glossy, durable floor without paying hardwood or tile prices, polished concrete delivers serious shine without the sticker shock.

Maintenance includes regular cleaning with appropriate products, periodic sealing to protect against staining and wear, and addressing minor issues before they escalate.

Before starting on a full refinishing project, determine if your floors need to be completely sanded down to the bare wood or if the damage is shallow and mostly cosmetic. Deep scratches and gouges will require you to rough sand using a drum sander or belt sander, but small surface scratches or floors that have only lost their luster don’t need a complete overhaul. Instead, you can skip the rough sanding step and sand-screen the old finish with a buffer, removing only the top layer of polyurethane.

Yes, a magic eraser can remove candle wax. You can use it to remove all the candle wax from start to finish. Another option is to remove all large clumps with a dull knife and then pull out your magic eraser to finish the job. However, while the results can be impressive, a magic eraser shouldn’t be used on all surfaces since it can potentially damage them. If you try this method, test a small, hidden spot first and proceed cautiously.

Yes, you can polish an old cement floor. However, be aware that the first pass with the concrete grinder may reveal a few surprises and imperfections. You may also have to contend with the consequences of previous floor coverings, such as tile or carpet, which can leave a pattern in the concrete. Old concrete is more likely to produce uneven results if you want to use a dye or other coloring.
