"I would recommend Preston and Mallard Mechanical to anybody in the area looking to buy a new furnace/AC, or even just general HVAC maintenance. We closed on our house on a Friday with the AC not working and the furnace on its way out. We called Mallard Mechanical that morning and the equipment was ordered that same day and the install scheduled for the following Tuesday. The day of the install Preston was on site right on time and got our old AC and furnace torn out and the new system put in all in the same day. He was extremely professional and kept a VERY clean work site. He made sure to go over everything about the new system with my wife and I and even took care of setting up the city inspection for the new system. Last but absolutely not least, Mallard Mechanical's prices are extremely fair and I cannot imagine finding better service anywhere else for as good of a price as we got with Mallard Mechanical. Thank you again to Preston and Mallard Mechanical!"

"My wife and I decided to have a split entry heat pump installed, so I contacted 4 contactors. JoMac was first to respond, first to come out, first to submit a bid, and after I accepted the bid, Joe completed the work in short order. Joe listens to the consumer well and is anxious to do a good job on the project; he knows that happy customers mean more business. Joe is polite and outgoing; he even brought cuccumbers for us. Two days after the job was done, Joe called just to see how things were going."

"Excellent service, very fast response to my request for service, picked up laptop, diagnosed issues. Initially thought it was an OS update issue but the hard drive had failed along with other components (including 'CPU). Because other components were involved, a new solid state hard drive was put into a laptop with a working processor - same type CPU as in the failed unit. The laptop was repaired and returned in less than a week. This company picked up and dropped off the laptop (driving from Huntsville, AL (about 60-70 minutes)-- great service in this covid environment. I would recommend this company to my family./friends and will use again."

"About an hour after calling Kaduce Plumbing and Heating, the service person arrived and promptly set about replacing our recirculating pump on our hot water heat furnace. He did a great job, and we had heat in about 30 minutes after he arrived. The service man even questioned why I had throttled down one of our heat lines by about 70%. That line goes to our upstairs and with an open stairway, the heat goes upstairs so we need less heat up there. Even throttled down, our upstairs stays about 10-15 degrees warmer than the ground floor. The service man did an excellent job of cleaning up after himself, so it's neater around the furnace than when he arrived."
Knowing how long your existing HVAC units can last is essential to determine if you need a repair or replacement. Typically, most modern air conditioning units can last between 15 to 20 years, and most furnaces can work properly for 15 to 30 years. If your HVAC system is on the older side and you decide to replace one unit, it might make sense to replace both simultaneously to save on costs and future hassle.
While different HVAC contractors might offer higher or lower prices than competitors, the best time to replace your HVAC system is when customer demand is low. The beginning of summer and the beginning of winter bring the most demand for HVAC systems, so if you can, consider replacing your HVAC units in the early spring or fall. Many HVAC companies offer special off-season coupons that help lower the overall cost.
The average cost to hire an HVAC contractor is between $50 and $150 per hour if charging hourly. However, some HVAC contractors will charge a flat fee by the type of service they are performing—for example, an inspection can cost between $150 to $500. Keep in mind that emergency repairs—which are made after business hours or around major holidays—generally cost more than scheduled repairs.
Yes, most states require HVAC technicians to be certified, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed HVAC technician could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The average cost of HVAC repairs is around $350. However, that price can be as low as $100 or as high as $2,000 or more, depending on the repair. For example, replacing a capacitor is a relatively inexpensive repair, ranging from $100 to $500. However, a compressor repair is a more expensive repair, ranging from $750 to $2,000.
