"Mr. Bush was very thorough; he asked me to send pictures of the job prior to an estimate. This way; if there were any issues he could ask additional questions to ensure a very accurate estimate without any surprises. Mr. Bush contacted me the prior night to verify that I still wanted the job done. He texted me the day of the job to tell me that he was on his way. Mr. Bush arrived on time and then asked to see the jobs in person. He explained that my new ceiling fan required a 4" bracket to ensure the stability of the fan and he had already quoted me a price just in case I needed the 4" bracket; so there were no surprise charges. After all of the jobs were completed, he reviewed my ceiling fan instructions and asked me if there were any questions. Mr. Bush was very friendly and professional. I have given Mr. Bush's contact information to a friend and I will definitely use Mr. Bush's services again in the future."

"Although I had used him successfull in the past, his work on my new house was a disappointment. He is very experienced but he didn't want to install my infrared heat lamp in the bathroom. I have a feeling he did not want to go into the attic (too physically demanding or perhaps he didnt want to shimm up a ladder that high). He also did not install the bathroom fan there either but did put one outlet in for my towel warmer. That work was fine. As far as replacing the ceiling fan with a beautiful contemporary fan from Minke Aire.. I was not in the room at the time but when I came back in the room, he was almost done. I asked him what this part was stuck in the styrofoam in the box (it was the donut shaped light diffuser screen that softens the uplighting), he said, "Oh, you don't need that, it's just an optional part. I didn't have the heart to have him disconnect the fan and put it on, so I had another electrician come and do it when I had other work done. He also set the heavy fan down on my comforter and the glass pointed circle or one of the rods from the fan cut a circle in the bedding. When we got to the basement, we had a lot of trouble installing a flourescent light under the suspended ceiling.. There was alreadyy a box there from a light over a pool table from previous owner and now that I use the area for office I wanted more lighting. I had to help him with the install and it was almost comical.between the two of us. He eventuall bolted the light to the suspended ceiling and joist and it was secure but it never looked good and it made noise. I had that work redone also. (He should have told me not to do that or suggested better options). Nothing earth shattering, but overall a disappointment. NOTE******************* The electrician I use now is very responsive and goes in the attic all the time (to hook up a light, run new lines or hook up the roof fan that I bought) or he bops over to the big box store for parts or whatever is needed to get the job done."

"So I bought two ceiling fans last summer, I started to install the first one ran into problems the mount did not line up, did not know how to fix, eventually put them in the closet. I looked on Angies list and found a near by A rated company with experience installing ceiling fans. I made the appointment at my convenience and at 9:00 A.M. this morning Scott and Miles arrived. You cannot be more on time than that! They got right to work, they knew what to do, removed the mud ring, alerted me to a a couple minor quality issues with the fans (2 missing thumb screws, 1 globe with an internal crack), cleaned up and were done in less than 2 hours. The fans work great. Outstanding punctuality, outstanding service, got the job done and off my list, and very affordable. I would absolutely hire Westborn Electric again, actually I would not try installing a ceiling fan again, I'd just hire them to do it."

"I contacted Hendrickson Home Improvement because of his referral history on Angie's list.  I left a voice mail for Bryan and he returned my call very promptly.  I explained that I had a job that needed to be done as soon as he was available.  (Honey Over DUE project)  He informed me that he was quite busy but would squeeze me in to get me out of the dog house.  To my surprise, he called me at 4 PM two days later and stated he had just finished an existing job and had a small window of time to install our fan.  I was elated!
Bryan came in and immediately began assessing the job.  Once he determined the system we purchased would function properly without interference from the ceiling, he got to work and had the fan up in about 2 hours.  He also suggested and performed a custom wiring job that allowed the lights and fan to work on different switches so we wouldn't need to use the chain.  Once the job was done, he cleaned the mess and was on his way.
Overall, we were very impressed with Bryan's work and would not hesitate to use him for future handyman jobs. "

"It turned out very good, excellent.  Two people came.  They did the work, one knew the work and the other was his helper.  I think they did a fine job.  They were here Friday the 29th of April, 2016.  We had two spots where the plaster on our ceiling had cracked and bubbled and it.  They were able to take the old plaster down and put new up.  It took them about 4 hours to complete the job.  There were no additional fees.  The responsiveness was harder. "

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

Essential tools for ceiling fan installation include a ladder, screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers, and a circuit tester. If the ceiling is angled or features unique configurations, ensure the availability of a compatible mounting bracket.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

Since the cost of installing a ceiling fan is $250 for most homeowners, it might be beneficial to replace your existing fan if you are experiencing a significant repair issue, like a broken motor. However, for less expensive repairs, like a fan blade replacement, you’ll likely spend less on the repair than a complete fan replacement. Of course, if you’re looking for an upgrade or a new style fan, replacing it altogether is always an option.
