"I can’t give Enlightened Electrical enough stars. John and his wife were amazing to work with! John was extremely responsive, knowledgeable, and gave some great suggestions to solve the lighting issues that were driving me crazy in my brand new home. One of the projects was to hang a ceiling fan in a room where no lighting existed. I thought this would be a problem but John had it all figured out and had it wired and installed in no time. John and his wife cleaned everything up before they left and were extremely considerate while in my home – and kept me laughing the entire time. Pricing was extremely fair as well. I have additional electrical projects coming up and will definitely be using Enlightened again in the very near future."

I am a retired contractor from the Midwest. Dee and I supplement our income with handyman work. We have hundreds of references for all sorts of projects, (as listed). The cost of operating a vehicle forces us to charge a trip charge if we are asked to travel out of the Golden Valley area. That charge varies according to distance but starts at $35.00 for more that 25 miles. All of our work is guaranteed. Parts are subject to the manufacturer's warranties.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.

Ceiling fans offer multiple benefits for your home. They improve air circulation to prevent stagnant environments and provide cost-effective temperature control, which can reduce reliance on your HVAC system and help lower utility bills. In addition to their functional advantages, ceiling fans can also enhance a room's aesthetic appeal with features like built-in lighting and modern styling.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.
