"I contracted DeGain Masonry to do a paver patio in my back yard. The finished project turned out better than I could have ever expected… very precise and meticulous. Clint was quick to return my calls, started and finished the project when promised and was more than accommodating in every way. I am a particular customer with high expectations of those I hire. That being said, I would highly recommend DeGain Masonry."

"Outstanding company! John, Mario and Giovanni were fantastic. Showed up when promised, did excellent work, kept me informed every step of the way and cleaned up, leaving site better than when they arrived. Quality company and quality work. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Highly recommend to anyone needed cement work."

"I contacted The Crack Team for foundation wall crack waterproofing after finding water near our utility lines and basement corner. They arrived on time, answered all my questions, and did clean work. What impressed me most was how respectful and honest the crew was throughout the whole process. The leaking stopped completely and the area looks great now."

"Contacted this company on June 15th with a chronic leak in the basement. the owner (Gary) came out to give a free estimate, arrived promptly, did a thorough examination of the problem, identified the issues, and presented us with a very well organized explanation of our specific basement problem. In these moments of the appointment, we were impressed with his knowledge and comprehension of not just the issues, but gave us choices on the remedies. He presented samples of the materials he uses to perform the work, and explained exactly how things would be done. We also felt that he gave us a reasonable estimate and we chose the least expensive option to remedy the issues. Once we decided to move ahead with this company, Gary organized the work and scheduled us for prompt service. His team Phil, Cody, and Casey arrived at the appointed date to prep the work areas. This was a pleasant experience because they showed interest and care in how I wanted my belongings to be handled. They included me on how organization and trouble-shooting so that they could do a good quality job in the expected time window of three days. Indeed, this is what happened. Not only did this team of men handle this work, and all of their duties, with utmost care and kindness, they were also quite personable and enjoyable to have on this basement job. They were all very neat, respectful, clean, courteous, and mindful of our daily activities. In earnest, this was a fine quality experience from the start, and it left us with feeling like a valued family...not just a customer. The work? It is excellent! We were invited to inspect the process along the way and the team would explain what was being done as they worked. On day two there was a slight snafu with the original set up of the pipelines when the house was built, and it threatened to delay job completion by a day. That didn't happen though, because the team was able to address the pipe issue satisfactorily without additional deconstruction needed. The cement work was neatly done and back filled; mold that had begun to accumulate was eradicated, and the work areas were nicely cleaned up. Additionally, the extra day was not necessary. The work was completed in predicted time and is a fine quality level of work. I highly recommend Gary and his team. I found them to be honest, trustworthy, personable, friendly, helpful, resourceful, experienced, and knowledgeable. Full 5+ stars on this business."

"Absolutely excellent service! After noticing that water was coming into my chimney when it rained, I started seeking inspections and estimates to figure out the scope of the problem. Pisani Contracting was the only one that offered a range of work options, rather than only the most drastic and expensive one, and while I did opt in the end to have the chimney rebuilt rather than patched, the offer was much appreciated. Despite the crazy conditions of late 2021, between weather delays due to rain, material shortages, and a packed schedule of work, Greg and his crew managed to fit the repair in and completed it in just two days. The whole team was very professional, and on top of the chimney work, they even touched up a few spots of masonry around the exterior of the house! The final product looks amazing, and it completely fixed the issues I was having. I would recommend Pisani Contracting to anyone looking to get an estimate on work done, and should I need any further repairs at my house, I will give them a call first thing. Just make sure you call from a Michigan number: having moved from out of state, the cell phone I use for most calls does not have a Michigan area code, and every time I called trying to schedule an estimate, the call went to voice mail; it was only when I called from my work number, which does have a Michigan area code, that I was able to get through to set things up. I'm glad I did, though, since I'm extremely pleased with the work done!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In Warren, watch for recurring cracks, mismatched or crumbling mortar, and persistent water stains—these often signal poor brick repair or foundation issues. Efflorescence (white powdery deposits) returning quickly, loose bricks, or mortar failing within five years are also red flags. If you notice uneven settling or moisture inside, consult a local pro for a thorough assessment and long-lasting repairs.

Helpful?

For Warren homes, inspect brickwork and mortar joints each spring for signs of winter damage or water intrusion. Clean off salt residue from walkways and reseal concrete every few years to prevent moisture penetration. Schedule a professional chimney inspection every few years, especially before winter. Address small cracks or loose mortar promptly to prevent foundation issues from developing due to MI’s freeze-thaw cycles.

Helpful?

In Warren, most small masonry repairs, like tuckpointing or minor brick repair, typically take 1-3 days. Chimney maintenance or rebuilding usually requires 3-5 days, while larger projects such as foundation repair or new brick facades may take up to two weeks. Weather, especially spring rains or early frost, can cause delays, so plan for some flexibility in your project timeline.

Helpful?

In Warren, immediate masonry work is needed if you see cracks wider than ¼ inch, bricks shifting, bulging walls, or water leaks—these issues can quickly worsen with MI’s freeze-thaw cycles. Minor hairline cracks or chipped mortar can often wait, but it’s best to schedule brick repair between late spring and early fall to ensure proper curing and avoid weather-related setbacks.

Helpful?

In Warren, chimneys and foundation walls are most vulnerable due to moisture and shifting clay soil. Exterior brick walls facing prevailing winds or heavy sun exposure often show wear first. Steps, walkways, and porches exposed to de-icing salts and foot traffic also need regular attention. Homes built in the 1950s-1970s often require repointing as original mortar begins to deteriorate after several decades.
