"These guys were GREAT. I had another estimate for over 10,000 because the other contractor said they had to dig a new well. BCB came in and gave me a second opinion in a few hours, that the problem was a pump problem that could be fixed. They arrived at 9:00 a.m. right on time, and had the entire problem fixed and the water back on by lunch time. IT ONLY COST 1600!!!! I am passing BCB's card out to everyone of my neighbors. I also need a new tank, and BCB gave me a reasonable bid. But, he was also able to patch the problem giving me a few weeks so the money drain was not so bad all at once. These guys are considerate of the customers financial situation, as well as excellent workman. And nice guys!"

"Trustworthy, thorough, and affordable. Matt worked hard to troubleshoot the loss of water from my well and hustled to get my water turned back on as soon as possible! He ended up needing to replace my submersible pump as well as the equipment in my basement and did so at a very reasonable cost. I would recommend him to anyone who is experiencing well issues."

Hello and thank you for viewing my services, I hope to fix any issue you have and build a relationship off of trust and fine work, if you were wondering what services I offer it’s easier for me to tell you what I don’t, no shingles and no tile, but I do offer grout replacement. It’s a great day when problems go away and projects are finished.

"The installer arrived on the agreed upon day, and ON TIME!!!! Believe me, this is a rarity in our area (we live in Manistee County where few have any work ethic at all!). He kept to the task, gave thorough explanations, and cleaned up afterwards. We are forever grateful! Our water is clear, no more yellowing or brown color, tastes great, and we don't have to buy purified water anymore. Thank you."

"Service was scheduled quickly and done fast. Manager has yet to checkout the job and complete the transferable life time warranty, but I have not called them back yet since the job was done. Everyone was friendly and informative, and understood the situation, where some other waterproofers never came to the house to quote the job."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Soft water is better for your hair. The minerals in hard water can dry out hair, make it brittle, and leave a film on the hair and scalp that may cause irritation. Hard water also doesn't rinse out shampoo and conditioner effectively, which can lead to product buildup that makes hair look dull and limp. You may also find you need to use more shampoo to get a good lather in hard water.

Replacing a water softener costs $200 to $6,000, depending on the capacity of the water softener, the type of water softener, and the amount of people living in your home. An ion exchange water softener is the most common type and costs $500 to $3,000. Water distillers, which cost $1,200 to $4,000, and dual-tank models, which cost $1,000 to $5,000, are definitely pricey, but they offer more filtration or capacity, respectively.

A water softener removes minerals from your drinking water and can make your house water softer. These softeners are designed to extend the lifetime of your plumbing system while also making water safer and more palatable for drinking. Hard water, which is water with a heavy amount of suspended particles, can also cause hair damage, skin irritation, and buildup in your pipes.

The main difference between a water softener and a water filter is what they remove from the water. A water softener is specifically designed to remove hard minerals, while a filter removes a wider range of contaminants above a certain size, such as bacteria and other impurities. If your primary goal is to remove minerals, a softener is the best choice. If you want to remove various contaminants for safety or taste, a filter is more suitable. Filters are also typically less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply's specific issues, you may need to install both systems for comprehensive treatment.

Whether you need a permit or license for a water softener installation depends on your location, as requirements vary significantly. Some municipalities require the installer to hold a plumbing license, some mandate a permit and an inspection, and others require both. In some areas, no special permit or license is needed at all.

To determine the rules in your area, you can contact your local building department or consult a local water softener installer or plumber. Often, only certified professionals are authorized to pull the necessary permits, and they will typically handle the entire permitting process for you. Regardless of local laws, it is always recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure the system is sized and installed correctly. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to check an installer’s license status.
