"We had a large office in Farmington Hills and they came in and dismantled large equipment, cubicles and desks and hauled it all away in time for us to be able to clean the site and turn in the keys."

Customers say: True professional

"They arrived on time to give an estimate for tree trimming. I chose to move forward. They listened carefully to what I needed and moved on with it immediately. The finished appearance of all 5 trees exceeds my expectations. Clean up was complete and I even informed them that I may have additional future work for them. Very pleased with the results."

"Kris was very easy to work with, and flexible when we had to make minor changes to the project mid-stream. Our tiny bathroom remodel was not without its challenges, but Kris always found ways to make everything fit, and did so at a reasonable price and with excellent care and craftsmanship. Kris and his crew were really good about communicating with us throughout the process to let us know what they were working on and what we should expect in terms of timing, noise level, mess potential, etc. My wife was pretty uncomfortable at the notion of having strangers in the house, particularly when neither of us was home, but Kris and his team were very professional and immediately put us both at ease. If I had to dock Kris for anything it would be that the initial contract was scant on details regarding the work that would be performed, and exactly who would be responsible for what. However, when I pressed for greater detail he was happy to comply. I would hire Kris again in a heartbeat."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.

Maintain open communication and address issues as they arise, ensuring contract terms cover potential delays.

Whether you grind or dig up and remove your tree stump depends on your landscaping goals. Using a stump grinder leaves the root system in place for it to decompose over time, whereas digging up the tree stump removes the roots and the stump. Overall, stump grinding is a far simpler process since you won’t need to deal with the roots. Stump removal will make your yard look like a demolition site, but you’ll have an easier time replanting in the same place as your former tree.

Most states do not require excavation companies to hold specific licenses, but many require at least a contractor’s license. Additionally, heavy equipment operators require a special commercial equipment license to operate machinery required for excavation. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that an excavation company you’re considering hiring is fully licensed. You should also make sure that the excavation team is fully insured before allowing them to work on your property.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.
