"Jim was there very promptly and spent two days doing the work. He was very thorough and neat and explained how everything worked when completed.  Jim was very personable and friendly and easy to talk with. He called us a few days later to check on us to see that we were happy and asked if we had any questions. He also stuck with his quotes.
Would definitely hire him again for any future electrical work.

"Highly recommend Doug. He was very quick to respond to my email for a quote-came out right away and gave a quote on the spot when others I called before him still havenâ t gotten a quote back to me even over nearly 2 weeks later. Electricians and contractors donâ t return calls these days or pick up the phone and that was a non issue with Doug which I appreciated. Doug came out within a week and installed and vented a new bathroom fan and switch in our older home and was careful not to damage any of our original tile work. He also installed a new outlet and 4 light fixtures. He was very responsive, professional, and reasonably priced. Will use him again in the future if we have any electrical needs and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a master electrician in the Kalamazoo area. Thanks Doug!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, a standard safety addition to home power outlets. In rooms where moisture is more likely, like the bathroom and kitchen, GFCI outlets stop the current when certain kinds of shorts are detected, preventing shocks. Both GFCI and the similar AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets are polarized and have clear indicators on the receptacle where hot wiring should go.

In many cases, you can sell your house if it has aluminum wiring, but you are likely required to disclose that fact during the sale. In some cases, your city or area may have banned the sale of homes with aluminum wiring, so you’ll need to update the wiring or arrange for its replacement as part of the sale. In some cases, it will benefit your home sale to replace the wiring system before putting it on the market.

The cost to replace or install an electrical outlet can vary. On average, you can expect to pay between $125 and $215 per outlet, including labor and materials. For a standard 120v outlet, the material cost is typically between $10 and $50. Labor costs for an electrician usually range from $50 to $100 per hour. The total cost can be higher if there are complex electrical issues to resolve. Specialized outlets like GFCI or high-voltage types can cost up to $50 each for the material alone. If you are replacing many outlets throughout your home, the total project cost could be between $900 and $3,000, but you may receive a better per-outlet rate from the electrician.

Yes, many professionals offer surge protection to safeguard equipment from power fluctuations.

There are a few reasons your lights may be on, but the rest of your electrical outlets and appliances are not working. The first is that while one circuit blew out, the lights may be on another circuit than your other electrical fixtures. Alternatively, your powerless appliances may be plugged into a GFCI outlet that was tripped and needs to be reset. If these issues aren’t responsible for the problem, you may have dead outlets or a wiring issue. Either way, you should contact an electrician to identify and fix the issue.
