"Doug was prompt, courteous, professional and skilled throughout the entire job. He called right away to set up an appointment and give me a ballpark maximum for the job. He also provided a courtesy call the morning of the appointment. Doug replaced and resecured an exterior electrical box for an outdoor garage light. He was so quick, that we had him fix another light that was in a similar, but less severe, condition. The cost for the work on both lights was less than the ballpark maximum for one. We couldn't be happier with the work and I made sure to put Doug's contact info right in my phone after he was finished."

"John called me back within 15 minutes.  He was very helpful and said he could do it but thought it might be better for me to contact someone a little closer.  I think his schedule was pretty full although he didn't say that.  He recommended 2 companies in my area and I ended up hiring one of them to do the work.  I was very pleased with them and they were prompt just like John at Lightning Rod Systems.  I appreciate that he was thinking about what was best for me."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Whether or not a pool needs a dedicated circuit depends on the electrical needs of the motor, lights, and pump. Keep in mind that pool motors can use a lot of electricity. A dedicated circuit can prevent the breaker from tripping whenever you use the pool. A small motor for an equally small pool may only need a GFCI outlet. It’s best to plug it directly into the outlet rather than using an extension cord. You should also consult an electrician to ensure your pool’s electrical system is in accordance with local regulations.

Usually, your house panel is one of the key components that must be replaced when upgrading your amp service. In many cases, you will also need to upgrade your meter base as well as other electrical components.

To ensure batteries stop charging when they’re full, you’ll need to install a charge controller that determines when the battery is full. Once the battery is fully charged, the charge controller will stop the energy flow or divert the energy to the grid or other appliances. Without a charge controller, the battery may continue to charge, which can lead to less productivity and potential damage.

Soldering is a reliable and durable way to connect wires, but it isn't the only method. Nowadays, professionals often crimp the connection instead—although this requires a higher degree of skill than soldering.

The lifespan of an average breaker box is 25 to 40 years, depending on the type and electrical events that occur in your home. Frequent power outages or surges can cause the breaker box’s lifespan to shorten. Maintain this essential electrical component by avoiding turning it off and inspecting it regularly for signs of damage.
