"Excellent job with lovely results even while maintaining social distancing during the pandemic. I've received many compliments on the landscaping and my questions about the care of the plants/sod/trees were promptly answered."

"I've been a licensed contractor for over 30 years with a 5-star rating myself, so I rarely take the time to write reviews unless it's flawless work. Height Control gave me a 10-star service from start to finish. Brain was as professional as they come. Without blinking an eye with the add on that I requested thru out my project; he never gave an unreasonable price for any of the work but most importantly didn't overextend the timeframe. His crew came out and did a exceptional job in a timely fashion. We ordered a massive natural 6ft stone step for our front porch which three other companies estimated that it couldn't be done due to the concrete foundation having the potential to crack. His crew came out and laid it without any incident. I highly recommend Height Control for ALL your landscaping needs. I promise you they will not disappoint!! "Robert was professional, courteous and hard working. His quote was very affordable and he did exactly what we had discussed. The landscaping turned out awesome - I would hire him again. Even one neighbor had him trim their shrubs!"

"GreenTHUMB Lawn & Landscaping went beyond what I expected by removing more than ten, of hundreds of year old tree stumps from trees I had cut down allowing our family to finally enjoy the beautiful space we have. The owner listen to my vision of what I wanted to see and i love my new graded backyard and new fire pit my best friend can now run and play safely on level ground, I no longer have to look at a crumbling concrete porch. I will be contacting Dalton when ready for the next phase of my project. I would recommend GreenTHUMB Lawn Landscaping for your next project I will."

"John Little and his crew were awesome! The project took about 90 minutes. They removed all leaves and debris and hauled such away (since my community last day for yard waste removal had passed). I was very pleased with there work and will seek their services again."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

While you can leave roots in the ground, if you don’t want the shrub to regrow again over time, it’s best not to leave any roots behind. Ensure you remove as much of the shrub as possible, including the root ball and any main roots you can see, to prevent new growth. Some gardeners opt for using a chemical treatment to prevent the stump from growing back, but this can kill beneficial microorganisms living in your soil.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

If you use the wrong plants for your gardening zone, you’ll likely get less than desirable yields from them. In some cases, your plants can even die. It’s important to ensure that your plants are able to survive in your hardiness zone before getting them into the ground.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.
