"Larry was prompt in replying to my request for handyman services and came to my home to make a bid within a couple of days. Dee works with Larry, and she spent several hours doing miscellaneous services such as removing old caulk, putting in new caulk in different locations, taking down a blind, rehanging a new blind, muddying a bathroom ceiling and part of a family room ceiling, then came back out after a few days of curing and painted. Very satisfied with their services and will be asking them to do an exterior project when we get back in town. Highly recommend!!"

Although their applications are very similar, no drywall compound and spackle are not the same thing. Spackle is a bit thicker and is used to patch holes as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. Joint compound shrinks a bit more and can be more temperamental to spread. Plastering lasts for around 15 to 20 years without needing repairs or maintenance in most cases, and with proper upkeep, plastering can last a lifetime—sometimes more than 100 years. Plaster repair costs between $1 and $3 per square foot, and you may need these services once every 15 to 20 years or so unless you have a harsh climate where humidity changes are a constant issue. You can also opt to skim-coat plaster for between $0.90 and $1.30 per square foot, which may serve you better in the long run.

Plaster repair costs range from $4 to $10 per square foot for refinishing, while skim coating can be less expensive, usually between $2 and $5 per square foot. The price you pay for plaster repairs will depend on the extent of the damage, the type of plaster you have on your walls, and the accessibility of the damage. Plaster repair on the exterior of your home tends to be more expensive, as there’s a higher chance that ladders or scaffolding will be necessary to carry out the repair.

You can technically just paint over hairline cracks in plaster since these cracks are often harmless, but this will mostly be a waste of paint. Paint will only hide the hairline crack for a few months before it shows up again. The best solution is to repair the crack with flexible filler or joint compound before repainting.

Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10 per square foot for both the material and labor.
