Granite is also harder to DIY than tile, given its weight and bulk, which increases the overall labor cost of installation. Over time, both types of countertops may need sealing to remain resistant to water, heat, and other common kitchen elements.

Both porcelain and ceramic have pros and cons. Porcelain tile is generally more durable than ceramic because it is denser and harder. This makes it less likely to chip, but the hardness can make it slightly brittle. As a result, porcelain tiles are more likely to crack if you drop a heavy object. Ceramic is also generally more affordable than porcelain.

Porcelain countertops have a fairly long life span, sometimes lasting for decades. Depending on how much wear and tear you put your countertops through, it could last 25 to 50 years. Also, avoid walking over less stable ungrouted floor tiles as they are more prone to premature cracking and shifting.
