Big companies will not touch a small job like this one. EB had to come back to make some adjustments, but they made sure everything was correct. Yes, you should always change your locks after buying a house. Do so as soon as possible after you move in. If you’re having an issue turning the key inside a lock, chances are there is dust or dirt buildup within the cylinder. The easiest solution is applying a dry lubricant to the lock, which loosens the dirt buildup. You may need to turn the key a few times for it to work properly again.

A deadbolt lock is typically considered more secure than a regular lock based on its internal construction. Each deadbolt type has varying levels of security, ranging from withstanding a small amount of force to those that can take on multiple strikes and greater force. Regular locks provide little to no security and are typically used more for easy entry and simple installation.

The average lifespan of a door lock is seven to 10 years, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and change them early, especially if they are showing signs of wear and tear.
