My front door deadbolt stopped working, so I took it off the door, put the parts in a bag, and went to Hack's. I hoped the guys could fix it as I didn't want to change keys. When I arrived, an employee approached and asked what I needed. I presented the deadbolt and all of the parts. The technician examined the lock  and extracted one part. He went into the back storage area and started searching. After a few minutes, he returned with a slightly used part, gave it to me, and told me that replacing it should fix the problem. I offered to pay, but the technician said that it was an old part that they coudn't sell. He woudn't even accept a five-dollar tip. I was pleasantly surprised. When I got home, I reassembled the deadbolt and fifteen minutes later, I could lock my door using both the doorknob as well as the deadbolt, using the same key. I highly recommend Hack's Key Shop as I have always had positive experiences with them.

Service was great. I needed two locks rekeyed. I called for availability and they even recommended bringing them in to save money on a service call. In and out in 30 minutes.

I love going to Hack's Key Shop for my keys. I have an old house and some of my keys are out-of-date styles, but Hacks always has been able to match them for me.

The technician was punctual and replaced a worn-out front door lock, the complete system including knobs, etc. In doing so he mauled the door, including gouging out a 3/4 x 7 inch piece of the door where he removed the old lock. Nor did he clean up after himself, leaving slivers of wood and paint all over the place. We are trying to repair the damage, using multiple layers of wood dough, but it now appears we may have to replace the door. I called Hacks that afternoon to complain to the new owner and was told she would call back. Last week, not having had any response, I emailed Hacks, telling them again about the problem. Still no response. It appears that Hacks Key Shop does not care about their customers or about complaints of terrible service. I suggest strongly that people avoid their services.
Response from Hacks Key Shop
"I am so sorry, I wasn't told of this situation until I read your review. I am afraid the person you phoned may have been the technician that created the problem, he didn't relay your phone call to me. (He has since been dismissed)....We would be happy to come out and make this right for you. 517-485-9488 Diana (Hack's)"

He arrived very promptly and was very polite and professional. He changed the locks on three outside doors. Work looks good. The price seems high, but I don't have anything to compare it to. I'd call them again.

Last week (12/20/13) I could not use the key in the front door, could not get into the house at first. Finally got in and the same thing happened to my husband. Then the entire lock just came out of the door.

I called Hack's this morning (12/23/13) and was told and quot; Sounds like you broke it. There will be a charge to come out.and quot; I told the gentleman that they had just installed the lock in October. He continued to blame the lock's failure on us. I told him I would find someone else to do the work. He was very rude and did not want to assume responsibility for installing a faulty lock.

I called Hacks at the recommendation of a neighbor and high rating on Angie's Lisa. . I am very disappointed. I called on Wednesday and was told that they would come on Thursday, but would call before they came. They did not call-just showed up. Luckily my husband was home. They changes 2 deadbolt locks which took about 30 minutes. Before starting the job they said it would be about $150.00. When they were done the bill was approximately $240.00. $25.00 for materials and $187.00 for service and labor! $187.00 for thirty minutes of work after being quoted $150.00! This is outrageous. They told my husband that the minimum service fee was $125.00. so, we were charged a $125.00 service fee and $62.50 for labor. I have noticed, however, that others who submitted reviews paid only $125.00 for comparable work. I will not use Hack's Key Shop in the future.

Their pricing was very reasonable. They were responsive and usually available right away when you needed something. I had them make keys and it was very quick and just within 10 minutes.

Very professional, answered all my questions, and made sure that I knew how each of the locks operated before he left (because of the age of the home, they were non-standard). The price was around where he said it would be before he started. Highly recommend.

We were dog-sitting for a neighbor and accidentally locked ourselves out of her house (we had a key for the deadbolt but not the door handle). We called Hack's to let us in; they showed up in less than 30 minutes and were able to unlock the door.Overall, the locksmith that responded was very experienced and professional and was able to solve the problem quickly.

Locksmith arrived on time after setting up appointment in person the day before at the shop after picking out new locks and handles, I got new high quality Schlage dead bolts and handles for a fair price plus installation. Extensive labor involved with installing the dead bolts, done very professionally. He had to cut two doors for new, slightly larger opening for dead bolt, this would have totally set me back if I had tried to do this myself. Plus, he had to enlarge the openings in the really large and thick strike plates with a grinder. Again a big set back if I had gone to store bought them myself and tried to install them myself to save a few bucks, and I may have ruined the nice wood doors. The new locks and handles look great and work great too.
