"We hired Great Lakes Landscape Plus to add top soil and raise the grade of our front yard, raise and expand our flower beds, plant a dozen or more perennials, install decorative stone retainers, and much, much more. We liked their dedication and work ethic and decided to hire them for “Phase 2” which involved creating a new flower bed, adding an additional retaining wall, more plants, and of course a lot of mulch. Overall, we found them to be reasonably priced, diligent, friendly, hard working, and they communicated very well with us with special attention to ensuring we were happy with the plant choices and placement. "BEWARE— Originally thought we hired LAGO tree service who was recommended by niece who was happy with Nick & LAGO’s work & told me to talk with Nick They were in the process of changing names to A&P due to nasty family divorce so when I called fast talker promise them anything Adam answered said he was working for Nick He was out immediately to give bid Paid FIVE THOUSAND cash making the mistake of trusting they’d come back as promised and finish the job Got their $3K estimated job — They NEVER came back to finish—no call— nothing —husband should’ve NEVER trusted they’d be back but because our niece had a good experience with LAGO we didn’t question the fact they had no business letterhead to write estimates when explained the whole divorce thing Number we had now has GUY on other end claiming he’s not affiliated anymore and company is now P&A If you call P&A get EVERYTHING in writing Do not trust Nick or Adam if they’re with this company that has changed names three times now — that alone are big red flags We are seniors on fixed income— Recently talked w/lawyer and weighing our options but they totally screwed us…had given our neighbor an estimate and never followed up with them either. Maybe we fell through the cracks with all the chaos in the company but still paying off the $5K loan we took out —"

Among the most common types of gravel are pea gravel, crushed stone, marble chips, jersey shore gravel, and base gravel. Gravel has different densities depending on whether it’s wet or dry or mixed with sand.

You should add 1 to 4 inches of mulch, depending on your garden type and needs. Keep in mind that no amount of mulch can completely prevent weeds, but a heavier coverage (closer to 4 inches) can suppress weeds enough that you are only seeing them sprout every few weeks. Finer mulch prevents weeds more effectively than large mulch, so if you’re using mulched leaves or shredded bark, 1 to 2 inches will likely suffice, while 3 to 4 inches is best for larger mulch, like bark chips or straw.

While you can put gravel directly on dirt, it won’t be very stable. It also won’t block out any weeds. Most experts recommend layering weed barrier and a layer of packed sand or other foundation material to prevent the gravel from sinking into the earth and being overtaken by weeds.

A 40-pound bag of topsoil covers 0.76 cubic feet, enough for 4.5 square feet with a 2-inch depth or 36 square feet with a .25-inch depth, such as topdressing a standard garden bed. If you want 2 inches of fresh topsoil for your 36-square-foot garden bed, you’ll need eight 40-pound bags.

Sand is a common sublayer for hardscape features like driveways, paver patios, and more. Most projects that involve sand require a 1-inch layer to promote evenness, drainage, and weight distribution. For further drainage, most projects have a 6-inch minimum layer of gravel beneath the sand.
