44 years of experience

Originally incorporated in 1981 as G&W Home Builders, Inc. by owner Dan Wellman and brother-in-law, Mike Grover, and then reformed as DJ Building, Inc. by Dan Wellman in 1991 when G&W split, Carter Construction & Contracting, LLC is the modern business entity established by the partnership of 35-year building veteran, Dan Wellman, and his 33-year old son, Brandon Wellman. The company was named after Dan's grandson & Brandon's nephew, Carter, whose college trust fund receives 3% of all profits generated from the business. Currently Carter Construction employs only two owners and operators, Dan & Brandon, who personally handle, when available, all new carpentry and structural remodeling while sub-contracting the remainder of their building services through strategic and trusted partnerships with only the best quality, licensed and insured tradesmen. Employing a qualifying officer who has been successfully licensed as a residential builder in the State of Michigan, uninterrupted, since 1986, means we can offer committed, professional, and ethical expertise based on over 35-years of direct general contracting experience and success!

Electrical questions, answered by experts

An average, 400-square-foot electric heated driveways consume approximately $3 per hour in terms of electricity. The price may slightly fluctuate depending on your local energy cost. A simple formula to calculate your heated driveway’s total wattage consumption is by multiplying the square footage by 50 watts and then dividing it by 1,000 to get the kilowatt number. Multiply that with your local energy cost per hour and there you have the hourly operating cost.

Rewiring projects cost anywhere between $1,500 and $10,000 on average, depending on the complexity and the size of the rewiring. You can anticipate spending between $2 and $4 per square foot of wire, including labor and materials. Wire material ranges from $0.25 to $1.60 per linear foot.

You can check if an electrician is licensed in New York by using the online license verification search tool offered by the New York State Education Department. The database is updated daily and gives you the option of searching by license number, contractor name, or the name of the business.

You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.

Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:

  • How many years of electrical experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three customer references?

The National Electrical Code (NEC) places a limit of eight outlets on one 15-amp circuit to maintain electrical load values below 80% of the breaker switch’s capacity. To ensure the safety of your home’s electrical system and remain up to code, do not add additional outlets to a 15-amp circuit above the legal limit.

By submitting this question, I acknowledge and agree that Angi may publicly display my name, city, state, and question on the website for professionals and others to see.
