"I hired Refloor to come back and do my basement too. The installation was delayed due to stock shortage but the floors are in and they are beautiful. I hired my own painter to stain the moldings to match the floors. The floors look so much like real wood. Great job!"

"As a businessman, I raise the bar very high on timely responsive communication, quality of workmanship and professionalism. Kalamazoo Concrete Coatings, LLC. certainly, satisfied all three (3) aforementioned prerequitsites, start to finish. Alec and his team provided a very impressive epoxy floor in our two-car garage that was desperately in need of major amounts of TLC. Their vast amount of state-of-the-art equipment (with dust collectors) combined with craftmanship experience turned my embarrassing, pitted, dingy garage floor to shiny, charcoal black show piece with a low slip textured clear coat. I know you have options, but do yourself a big favor, save your frustration and time. Make your first call to Kalamazoo Concrete Coatings, LLC. (269)-808-1121. Tell them Steve Harp recommended you to call.... You will be glad you did, guaranteed!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

In Kalamazoo, older homes may have uneven subfloors, non-standard joist spacing, or settling from clay soil. High water tables can affect basement flooring, while narrow doorways and multiple levels add complexity. If your home is over 75 years old or has a history of flooding, a professional assessment is recommended to identify hidden issues before starting your flooring installation or repair project.

Helpful?

In Kalamazoo, consider flooring installation or repair if you notice persistent squeaks, visible gaps after winter, or signs of water damage from basement moisture. Watch for cupping, mold growth, or salt stains following harsh weather. Scheduling projects before heating season or after spring thaw helps avoid weather delays and ensures your new flooring adapts well to local climate conditions.

Helpful?

To streamline your flooring project in Kalamazoo, plan installation during late spring or early fall for optimal conditions. Allow hardwood to acclimate indoors for at least two weeks. Source flooring materials locally to prevent delays, and coordinate with professionals familiar with older homes. Confirm waste disposal options and check if structural changes require permits before starting your flooring installation or repair.

Helpful?

For flooring projects in Kalamazoo, keep essentials like a moisture meter, pH-neutral floor cleaner, and microfiber mop for regular care. A wet/dry vacuum is helpful for winter salt and snow cleanup, while a humidifier or dehumidifier helps control seasonal humidity. Grout sealer, high-quality entry mats, and a basic floor repair kit ensure you’re ready for quick fixes and ongoing flooring maintenance.

Helpful?

Kalamazoo’s climate brings wide humidity swings and cold winters, which can cause wood floors to expand, contract, or develop cupping. Basements often face moisture from a high water table and spring snowmelt, making moisture barriers essential. With about 37 inches of annual precipitation, timing installations for late April to June or September to October helps avoid complications from extreme cold or humidity.
