"We've been having trouble with our fireplace all last season, so I had Hearth Guardian come out to take a look. They cleaned the whole unit and area, and the darn thing worked like a charm. My advice: get your fireplace cleaned professionally regularly. We had such good service that we are planning to have them back to install a blower into our fireplace."

"Detroit City Sweep came to two of my properties to repair a total of three fireplaces. They did a fine job repairing one gas fireplace and adding caps to my chimney. I had a second gas fireplace that they needed to order a part for. I had to call them half a dozen times to get them to order the part and come back to the house to install it. When they finally did, it turns out they ordered the wrong part. After multiple calls they came out a second time, and again, it was the wrong part. Three weeks passed and on the third visit they brought the wrong part again and said the correct part was going to cost me twice what they originally quoted. I would like to recommend Detroit City Sweep, but I just can't."

"They did an excellent job! They (Shadrick & Sam) were very knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt! Cleaning fireplaces is very messy work, but they protected our new carpet nicely with drop cloths. And they did a great job cleaning up after their work was complete. We will need some repairs as a result of the inspection, but Shadrick was very informative and explained why the repairs needed to be made and how the repairs would be made when we schedule the work."

"Tri-County initially came out after I had 2 estimates to repair the chimney on the house and not only gave me a good price, with no sales pitch, but they had the parts on hand to complete my job. I left to run errands, came back home to a completed job with a new chimney top and cage to keep birds and debris out. Unbelievable!! They cleaned up and left. Little did I know my neighbor hired them. I caught Jordon, the owner of Tri-County on my nieghbors roof the next morning and paid him. Yea, I had to catch him to pay him, lol. I got quality workmanship and trust on a hand shake, they don't waste time! Certainly did not waste my time. Furthermore, they rebuilt and completely finished off this outside fireplace at the back of our property on the following weekend. We never thought we would use it after our son backed into it with his truck, It just looked like a pile of bricks when I handed it over to Tri-County. Thank you Gentlemen"

Customers say: Quality work

"Bill called me shortly after I sent out my request to home advisor. They came to work the second day. It turned out to be a touch project. The fireplace floor had to be removed and new 4-6'' of concrete footing was poured. Dave reinstalled fireplace brick in fireplace walls carefully like an artist. It took them extra long hours to complete the job, but they left a beautiful fireplace to me without asking for any extra money."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Knowing who to hire to install your fireplace is important when it comes to having a safe place to burn a fire in your home. The best person to contact for installing fireplaces is a mason or general contractor who has a National Fireplace Institute (NFI) specialist certification. If you’re installing wood paneling, then it’s a good idea to also find a pro who is Wood Energy Technology Transfer (WETT)-certified.

Both of these certifications show that your pro is well-equipped to install fireplaces and inspect your home for the utmost safety.

Although they provide heat, light, and atmosphere, pellet stoves require electricity to run certain parts, which some homeowners may find to be an unfortunate additional expense. They can also produce noises that some may find annoying, like a low rumble from the blower fan or its motor.

To maintain a stove, clean the stove, chimney, or vent regularly. You should also use seasoned wood or pellets. Schedule an annual professional inspection to ensure safety.

Cleaning your own chimney can be risky, especially if it hasn't been done in a long time and you lack the proper tools, knowledge, and safety equipment. The process involves getting onto the roof and handling soot, which poses safety issues. Remember, inhaling chimney soot is a significant health risk. Wearing the proper respiratory equipment is required.

The short answer is yes, as hearths need to extend a certain distance out from the fire. This is usually around at least a foot in front but is often more, closer to two feet even. There is another distance to consider, which is the distance beyond the opening of the fireplace. Each municipality will have different code requirements.
