Small jobs welcome

"After one call they came to my home, picked up my old computer and the same day delivered the news that (as expected) it was beyond repair. They transferred all data to a new tower and returned and installed. Their on-line tech worked out a few areas. I could not be happier. Would recommend this company for their great service, products and amazing staff."

"We had a great experience with JJ Electric. We had 7 light fixtures replaced and had two ceiling fans fixed. The electrician was knowledgeable and the work was done speedily. "Justin and team redid all the electric in a remodel. They installed everything electric including my DYI lights. They were very fun to work with, extremely personable and wanting to make customers happy. No complaints when we ask to do more work then contracted for and did not over charge for work. Highly recommend, great team of people and competitive pricing!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The cost to replace or install an electrical outlet can vary. On average, you can expect to pay between $125 and $215 per outlet, including labor and materials. For a standard 120v outlet, the material cost is typically between $10 and $50. Labor costs for an electrician usually range from $50 to $100 per hour. The total cost can be higher if there are complex electrical issues to resolve. Specialized outlets like GFCI or high-voltage types can cost up to $50 each for the material alone. If you are replacing many outlets throughout your home, the total project cost could be between $900 and $3,000, but you may receive a better per-outlet rate from the electrician.

The easiest way to determine the amperage of your electrical outlets is to check the corresponding breaker in your home’s breaker panel. The number is likely noted on the circuit breaker. If that fails, it’s possible to tell 15-amp and 20-amp outlets apart by looking at them. Fifteen-amp outlets have two vertical holes, while 20-amp outlets have one vertical hole and one T-shaped hole.

The key difference between a circuit breaker versus a surge protector is that circuit breakers shield your entire electrical system from overcurrents and faults, while surge protectors defend your electronic devices against voltage surges and spikes. A circuit breaker interrupts the flow of electricity in a circuit when it detects an overload or short circuit, protecting the wiring from damage and preventing fires. In contrast, a surge protector shields electronic devices from voltage spikes, such as those caused by lightning strikes or power surges, preventing damage to the device’s inner mechanics.

Smart light switches are designed to be compatible with most lights and traditional home wiring, but there are several key factors to check. First, verify your home's wiring, as some smart switches require a neutral wire to operate, which may not be present in older houses (often built before 1985). Always check the wiring requirements for the specific model you choose. Second, consider your light bulbs; while smart switches work with almost any light, using a dimming feature requires dimmable bulbs, such as dimmable LEDs. Finally, ensure you have the necessary network connection. Most smart switches need a Wi-Fi connection for remote control, but some older models might use other standards like ZigBee, which would require a compatible hub.

A blinking, or twinkle, bulb makes Christmas lights blink. Usually, this type of bulb has a silver or red tip, making it easily distinguishable from other non-blinking bulbs. Most packages of Christmas lights come with additional blinking and non-blinking bulbs. Additional bulbs can be purchased at a hardware store or online retailer.
