"Troy came out same day when a tree fell on my clients home. He met me on site and got right to work. No hesitation. Barely even talked price. He wanted that tree off of my clients home so it could be tarped right away before we talked further. He put the client first. Then after we talked pricing (super competitive and well worth what they charge) he got right to work and didnt stop until completion. I would recommend troy wilson & NATO to anyone looking for above industry standard service!"

"We hired Fair & Square 2 years ago to remove 5 trees from our yard. We were extremely well satisfied with the quality of the work, the rapid response time, and the friendliness of the workers. We are hiring them again to remove more trees this summer."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It takes anywhere from three to seven years for a stump to decompose on its own. This timeframe can depend on the kind of tree and your climate. The lower to the ground the stump is, the faster it rots. If you kill a tree stump with salt, boiling water, herbicide, light deprivation, or burning, the tree stump decomposes faster.

A standard tree removal doesn’t include stump grinding. If you want your contractor to remove your tree and grind the stump, you must pay an extra charge. That said, you’ll likely save on the cost of stand-alone service—especially if it’s a small tree and they can finish both jobs in a single trip.

Horticulturist is a broad term for any type of plant and soil expert. An arborist, meanwhile, specializes in all aspects of tree care. You should hire an arborist when you need assistance with tree-related tasks, such as pruning large trees, removing trees, diagnosing a sick tree, or emergency tree services. Horticulturists aren’t qualified to handle those types of tasks.

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. If you’re unsure which method to use or how quickly you need to act, consulting with a pro is always a good idea.
