2016 years of experience

My name is Kirk Laskowski. My Dad (Jerry Laskowski) taught me the painting trade when I was just a teen. Then my Dad and I taught my sons the trade and we painted for friends & relatives before joining with several big painting contractors in Grand Rapids & Holland where we honed our skills. We then knew it was time to make the investment in better equipment, tools, and a van before we started our own business in 2018. We are very professional, courteous and timely due at least in part to my college experience and career in Design Engineering in corporate America for the first leg of my working life. We will always ask questions to learn exactly what you want, respect you, your family, your business, your employees, and your property. We will always tread lightly, work hard and in a timely manner, and leave behind a quality paint job with no mess or damage. We have liability insurance and can supply references upon request.

"I asked my neighbors for a recommendation for a painter and all any of them could give me was names of painters not to hire. When I put my information about my job on Home adviser, Kirk called me within 5 minutes to see if he could bid my job. From then on every step of the process Kirk kept in touch with me about pricing and timeline. I was on a pretty tight timeline on when the project needed to be finished. What I got from Kirk and Son's was: Great communication Project finished on time Project finished on budget A crew that showed up on time every morning and worked hard A crew that was very friendly and respectful And a great quality job These qualities in any service company are hard to find these days. I strongly recommend Kirk and Son's Painting based on my great experience."

The English Painters has been a painting and home improvement business in the Grand Rapids area since 2000. With over 15 years experience, our services provide high quality workmanship with customer service being of utmost importance.

"We were very impressed! The bathroom required some caulking above the shower and some wall repair due to water splashing from the shower. The master bath cabinets were not in great shape due to a previous paint job done by me with the wrong kind of paint. They removed the vanity doors and took them off site to sand and paint. Mat did such a beautiful job, They look like brand new. Everything was done perfectly. Mat and his employees were very professional. They were punctual, and Mat called or texted to keep us in the loop about any change in arrival time. We really appreciated that. He also was very flexible and helpful about working with our schedule, as we had guests coming from out of town. When we need additional painting done in the future, we will contact Mat."

Since its inception in 2007, Paragon Painting has strived to provide high quality interior and exterior painting services to all of its commercial and residential clients. Locally owned and operated, Paragon Painting offers high quality craftsmanship at affordable prices, while maintaining a strong focus on the customer/contractor relationship. Clear customer communication, a hard work ethic, and a high level of professional and personal integrity have been the cornerstones of Paragon Painting’s success. Paragon Painting is fully licensed and insured, and offers an array of environmentally friendly services for those interested in “going green.” Customer satisfaction says it all! For many years now, Paragon Painting has been the Kalamazoo area’s top rated painting contractor on Angie’s List.

"This is a small, owner-operated business with diligent and trustworthy support employees. Kevin communicated with us regularly and was clear in his explanations. His estimate included minor repairs to siding. Where he noted defects (mostly due to aging) he pointed them out and even took some pictures to clarify what was wrong. He caulked areas, prior to painting, that should have been taken care of by the original builder. We chose a rather bold color to be applied to vinyl siding. He took the time and effort to make sure that shifting of the siding would have a minimal impact on the final appearance. His final invoice was more than fair considering the quality of his work. His attention to detail was incredible! He was easy to work with and we can't recommend him highly enough."

"HWC - Home Works Corporation Wyoming, MI has been a total nightmare. We paid a $3000 deposit and paid them over $6000 to install a tub and tub surround in our bathroom. The caulk job(s) last only six seeks before it cracks and shrinks and it had to be redone several times and they will NOT cover it under the guarantee / warranty. We were charged $900.00 for the HWC installers to take the ceramic tile and plaster lat down to the bare studs, but they only partially and did it and didn’t do it all the way. They were supposed to use water resistant drywall from the tub to the ceiling and side to side, but used plywood instead and for only three feet from the tub up the wall and not the entire wall as they show in a training video they provided to us. They glued the plastic panels directly to the ceramic tile and we now have bubble lines across the entire back wall and side to side every twelve inches apart. We now have two different surfaces both plywood and ceramic tile behind the plastic paneling they installed. On the day the project was finished, three bikers showed to collect the remaining monies owed to HWC as the glue and caulk was not dried or had was set. HWC refuses to warranty and guarantee their work. Several attempts have been made to contact them and have them to come back out to see and correct the poor work performance, but HWC refuses to do so. The two owners have tried to intimate us and have threatened us via emails, that if we Google review HWC or report them to the “BBB” Better Business Bureau or take legal actions against them for the poor work that they have done. They fail to take responsibility and correct quality issues and the substandard performance of their installers. We have hired several good contractors over the past two years and with good and satisfying results. HWC has NOT been a good or reliable company to do business with and I encourage everyone to look elsewhere or prepare yourself for disappointment if you hire HWC. I advise you to avoid HWC like the plague. It is my recommendation that if you want good quality windows call 1-800-HANSONS. If you want a good quality roof call Above Roofing. If you are looking for other good quality contractors call Service Professor. Not HWC!"

Cabinet Refacing and Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Apply a sealant to your cabinets to repel water and moisture. This will help prevent further water damage from developing, such as mold and rotting wood. Lacquer, polyurethane, and varnish are commonly used sealants with waterproofing abilities. Brush them onto your cabinets and follow the manufacturer's instructions on drying time, which can take up to several hours.

Refinishing cabinets requires sanding and restoring them with paint, lacquer, or stain. Refacing cabinets involves removing and replacing existing cabinet doors and hardware. Refacing cabinets can be more costly. Refacing cabinets typically costs between $4,500 to $10,600

If you don’t want to sand your bathroom cabinets before painting, it’s possible to make it work. However, sanding the cabinets for a long-lasting paint job is always best. Make sure your cabinets are in good shape, choose high-quality paint, and use a deglosser. The deglosser strips the paint, varnish, or stain from the cabinets to give you a clean slate to work from.

Refinishing cabinets preserves the framework, updates appearances cost-effectively, reduces material wastage, and allows color and style customization.

Yes, kitchen cabinets need two coats of paint to achieve a smooth, durable, and uniform finish. The first coat provides a base and may reveal imperfections, while the second coat ensures complete coverage and enhances the color's richness. Applying two coats helps improve the paint's durability, making it more resistant to chipping and wear. Sometimes, a third coat may be necessary for darker colors or cabinets made of a particularly porous material.
