Small jobs welcome

"In a word, Soil Friends Excavation is FANTASTIC! Ben and Bob built a large (concrete) retaining wall on a steep slope and were with us for almost 3 weeks. From start to finish, they CARED about the project as if building it for their own homes, 100% dedicated. Seriously - they obsessed over getting every detail just right, maybe more than we did! Every day so positive and upbeat, answered questions patiently, made excellent suggestions, and built us a stunning wall! Ben was always quick to respond, before & during & even after the project. You won't find a more friendly, efficient, hard-working, dedicated crew than Ben's team. They truly go above and beyond. Highly and enthusiastically recommended!!!"

"Great experience-start to finish. I cannot say enough good things about working with this company. Russell made sure I understand exactly what was happening with our foundation, exactly what him and his crew were going to do, and how much it would cost. Zero pressure to hire them - just an explanation of what was happening and how it could be fixed. Sometimes construction was delayed, we started much later than I had planned…and it took longer than expected - BUT I would hire them 100x over. There is no other company I would trust with my foundation. Period. His crew worked in the pouring rain, cleaned up at the end of the day - (meaning they swept the street in front of my house) and protected my grass during construction. I would challenge ANYone to come over and guess where they dug. (8ft+trench) The crew even preserved some trinkets for my girls when they dug in their fairy garden♥️. I’m so impressed with this company and though it was the most $$ I’ve spent ever on a home - I’m so so glad we hired them - and I am so grateful that we met him. Btw - he was there often to inspect the work and explain where they were in the process, what they had done, and why they’re doing it. I will recommend Precision to any/everyone who needs a service like this. ⭐️ ⭐️ ?⭐️⭐️"

"We had a very large, very long horizontal crack in our wall. Jacob W. was great. He answered all my husbands questions and worked his butt off. Along with Austin H. and Denzel K. The cleaned up everything when the job was done too. I would give them a 10/10 and would recommend them to anyone that needed foundation work done."

"it's been 4 years since Everdry worked our foundation. We have not had a drop since they did the project. The only setback was the cost but we couldn't have ever sold our home unless this was done. The team was respectful and on time every day. We actually enjoyed them with the work ethics and placing our plants back around the foundation. Terri - Mattawan MI TSH"

"Golden Construction responded to an emergency and urgent construction need. An old 8+ foot (height) by 150+ feet (length) retaining wall collapsed from severe weather, which compromised a large area of yard holding an in-ground pool. Golden recognized the potential danger, responded immediately with a very competitive estimate, and began work within a couple of days. The owner maintained ongoing communication throughout the project which was completed quickly and professionally. The rebuild is far superior to original wall. Excellent work. Recommend unconditionally."

"Ron and crew were all business when they arrived Ron explained what they were going to do asking if there were any questions. Very professional. They did neat work, and left everything cleaned up and in great order. Again the warrantee was reviewed. We were surprised how quickly they were able to do our project. We highly recommend this company. Myrna W in Six Lakes, MI"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.

Yes, staining a brick home can increase a home’s value, assuming your pro does a good job and you keep up with maintenance tasks. Staining brick is a much better way to increase a home’s value than painting brick, as the latter can cause chipping, warping, and bubbling. Brick stain, on the other hand, gets absorbed by the surface, so it can still breathe.

There are many things to look for when buying a brick house. Here are some of the key things you should pay close attention to.

  • Lintels: Look for cracks, holes, displacement, or corrosion

  • Mortar: Check to see if the mortar is old and crumbling, in need of repointing, or new. Also check to see if the mortar has a professional finish.

  • Walls: Check along each side of the house. If a wall is bowing outward, this indicates a severe issue such as foundation damage or that the walls are ready to fall.

  • Cracks: If there are stair step cracks in the brickwork, this indicates an unstable foundation.

On average, a quality exterior brick stain can last between 10 and 20 years, and sometimes even longer. While it will look its best for a minimum of three to five years, its total lifespan depends on several factors. These include the quality and type of stain used, the condition of the brick, and the thoroughness of the surface preparation, such as proper cleaning. Following the manufacturer's application instructions and applying a sealant as a final step is also crucial. The stain's longevity can be affected by your location, climate, and the brick's exposure to harsh weather, high traffic, and other elements. Over time, the stain may begin to fade or look dingy due to weathering, erosion, dirt, and debris. Compared to paint, brick stain generally has a longer lifespan.

Not all cracks in brick indicate foundation problems. For instance, small hairline cracks can occur as a new construction settles. However, larger cracks are often a sign of a more severe issue. Indicators of a potential foundation problem include long horizontal cracks, "stair-step" cracks, vertical cracks that appear indoors, or any crack that widens at the top. Other signs of structural damage to look for are uneven floors and doors or windows that stick. These issues could be caused by problems with the soil beneath the home or an overgrown tree.
