"I recently hired AAB Electric for some electrical work, and I am extremely pleased with the results. They installed recessed lights and ceiling fans in my home, and the entire process went smoothly. The team was timely, arriving right on schedule, and very friendly, making the experience even better. The installation was done to my complete satisfaction, and everything looks and works perfectly. I will definitely be using their services again in the future and highly recommend them for any electrical work."

"Excellent, Joe is very knowledgeable and professional. He is very responsive via text message which is great for me! He was on time, coached me on new chemicals and how to best utilize them to maintain the life of the hot tub. I would highly recommend him although he seems to be very busy with a long list of current clients. He is 2+ weeks out so I would advise reaching out to him in advance and not waiting until the last minute or you may be out of luck."

"I don't normally write reviews but this company that I've never used before was so prompt and helpful that I felt the need to actually write a review. Today I called La Place for the first time mid-morning and an electrician was at my house in 2-3 hours. He checked a bit and determined it was an AEP issue (of which I was skeptical). He showed me on the outside electric meter what the readings were and what they were supposed to be. He explained what sort of problem I had and told me how to explain it to AEP. He even rearranged some wiring so the furnace would run while I waited for AEP to fix the underground wires outside that feed into my house. He explained things well and took the time needed. I'd definitely use La Place Electric again! I haven't seen the bill yet, but I'm grateful that what I feared was a safety issue was not and I'm grateful I didn't have to take any more time off work waiting for an electrician. And a thanks to AEP also. They dug up the underground wire in my yard and repaired it that evening in the dark! I'm now back to full power."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A GFCI outlet can be 15A or 20A. The average American home power outlet is 15A.

No, it’s extremely dangerous to cap off live electrical wires. Working with live wires puts you at serious risk of electric shock, which can cause injury or even be fatal. Whenever you need to cap off electrical wires or complete any electrical work in general, it’s essential to shut the power off at the breaker before you begin.

The cost to upgrade an electrical panel ranges from $1,200 to $2,000, depending on the type of electrical panel you need and the size of your home. Amperage plays a central role in determining the cost, so calculate your home’s electrical load before purchasing. For example, a 100-amp and 400-amp panel vary widely in cost.

An air conditioner’s watt usage depends on multiple factors, including the type of AC unit, its size, and how often you use it. With that said, most central air conditioners consume between 3,000 and 3,500 watts. Meanwhile, window AC units use 900 to 1,400 watts, and portable air conditioners consume 2,900 to 4,100 watts.

It’s possible to distinguish a positive black wire from a negative black wire if you know what type of circuit the wires are in. If it’s an alternating current (AC), then black wires are positive. If it’s a direct current (DC), then black wires are negative.

Sometimes, a circuit has two black wires. In that case, the positive black wire will be solid black while the negative black wire will have a white stripe on it. If you’re still unsure, you can use a multimeter to check.
