"I hired Dallas to finish my basement. It was a blank slate when he started and it is absolutely beautiful now that he is finished. I had ideas of what I wanted, lucky for me he was able to understand my vision and create what I wanted simply by showing him some pictures (Yes, from Pinterest). I really appreciated that he would suggest ideas that I would not have thought of. I now have a bathroom, bedroom and large living area downstairs. He built a reading nook for my granddaughter that is incredible. He also built a huge storage cabinet that has open shelves for displaying items and lots of storage for my crafting supplies etc. Two custom pieces that Iâ m always showing off. He is a perfectionist, which Iâ m grateful for because I am too. I did not have to ask to have anything redone, touched up etc. He went above and beyond to make my basement a comfortable place for my family and friends. I will be hiring him again!!"

"We replaced a bath tub that leaked, with a walk in shower. BathWorks did an excellent job, and the replacement was done in one day! They left the bathroom clean, and the shower ready for use. We are getting older, and it was difficult for me to lift my legs over the bath tub wall after knee replacement surgeries. We are sorry we did not make this change earlier. We definitely recommend BathWorks. The workers were professional, and they made sure we understood everything about our new shower before they left. We are extremely satisfied."

"Awesome experience. They were timely, professional, transparent about pricing, and their install went flawlessly. I could not recommend them more! We got a new shower with their marble Bella Stone product and a frameless glass door. I cannot believe how amazing it looks. My husband and I are absolutely smitten with how good it looks! They were priced less than all of the other bids we got also. 5 stars!"

"I worked with Hammer Down on a floor replacement and trim work. Their team did an awesome job! They went above and beyond, reinstalling door and window trim that wasn’t part of their initial quote. Great work and awesome attention to detail on the entire removal and instal. We went with luxury vinyl floor and it is preforming perfect. I highly recommend the Hammer Down team!"

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

Installing new kitchen countertops costs $1,850 to $4,450, with an average price of $3,140. Some materials, like marble and granite, are more expensive than others. Additionally, the size of the countertop impacts the overall price. Labor accounts for 10% to 20% of the overall project cost. Add-ons, like edging and corner treatments, also increase the cost.

Installations can be done on drywall, plaster, brick, concrete, and tile, with specialized anchors or fasteners as needed.

Cutting stone comes with a number of safety hazards. First and foremost, if you’re not comfortable with the equipment required to cut stone, including blades and grinders, you could easily injure yourself. The heavy machinery also poses a risk to your ears if you don’t wear proper ear protection; similarly, you need to wear eye protection to keep debris from irritating your eyes.

However, the biggest risk from cutting stone comes from the stone dust. When breathed in, stone dust can be a huge hazard to your lungs. Always wear a face mask when cutting stone to prevent inhaling stone dust, and thoroughly clean the work area when you are finished.

To avoid injury, we recommend hiring a stone-cutting professional, rather than attempting this job yourself.

Overall, granite tends to cost more than marble. Prices for each material will fluctuate depending on the source of the stone, your location, shipping costs, and the thickness of the material. Labor to install marble or granite countertops typically ranges from $35 to $45 per hour. Granite and marble tile and slab costs compare as follows:

  • Marble tile: $7–$10

  • Granite tile: $5–$15

  • Marble slab: $25–$60

  • Granite slab: $50–$100

Using water when cutting stone drastically reduces the amount of dust that comes off the stone. It’s beneficial to cut down on the amount of dust for respiratory and other safety reasons, such as keeping your vision clear while using an electric tool. Even with protective eyewear, the dust can still cloud your safety glasses. You should always wear protective gear when cutting stone.
