"Home Spec removed about 16” of cement floor along the leaking walls over to the sump pump, dug a a trench, installed PVC pipe which had holes on the bottom, filled the trench with gravel, then poured new cement. The job took 3 days. There were 4 workers on the crew all of whom worked hard and in a professional manner. They exhibited a great work ethic. They protected my property inside and out, covering the floor and stairs with heavy paper and covering things with tarps. This is hard work. The men used 5 gallon buckets to haul out the broken concrete, haul in the gravel and cement. I didn’t hear them stop work except for a short lunch break. Everyone I met and spoke with was knowledgeable, courteous and kept me up to date on the work. I was very anxious about having this work done and put it off. I feared the noise, the dirt, the cost and the disruption. It was not as bad as I imagined which is due to the outstanding work by HomeSpec. I recommend them without hesitation."

"They were very quick to respond when contacted through this site. They were able to schedule the inspection within 3 business days which was nice as I was expecting 1-2 weeks. Haven't received the results yet so no further services have been used but will definitely use them for the remediation should it come to that."

Small jobs welcome

"I had questions about the foundation and structure of a home I was considering buying. Steve was able to quickly get me a time slot scheduled to do the inspection. While doing the walkthrough, he was very porfessional and kept a good, open dialogue about what he noticed as concerns and things that were positive. He did a great job of assessing and inspecting all of the areas I had a concern with and made sure to point out and make me aware of the things that I wasn't aware of. Between addressing concerns, he was able to give insight about how the issues should best be repaired. I would and will happily contact Steve again for future structural and inspection issues."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Homeowners can conduct basic visual inspections and cleaning, but professionals provide thorough checks that identify hidden issues safely.

Inspections for new construction may not be legally required, but you should consider them a must if you’re buying a new home. The quality of the construction can vary widely by builder, and many inspections, even for brand-new homes, can uncover problems with framing, structural components, mechanicals, appliances, and more. Professional inspection reports give you leverage to push the associated repair costs to the builder rather than paying for them yourself, so they’re always worthwhile, if only for the peace of mind they provide.

Yes. Chimneys should be inspected annually to ensure they are in safe working order. Inspectors check the chimney for cracks, leaks, blockages, creosote buildup, and other problems that could result in structural damage to your home, fire hazards, or carbon monoxide poisoning. A yearly inspection is the best way to identify potential issues before they can cause damage to you or your home.

It is generally recommended to schedule a professional plumbing inspection annually for an average home. However, the ideal frequency can vary. Newer homes may only require an inspection every two years, while older homes, or those with a history of plumbing problems, benefit from more frequent annual checkups. Other factors that might necessitate more frequent inspections include having hard water or mature trees on your property with extensive root systems that could damage sewer and water lines. Regular maintenance helps identify potential issues early, preventing costly repairs, and typically includes checking for leaks, inspecting connections, and ensuring pipes and fixtures are in good working condition to extend the life of your plumbing system.

Several government-backed lending programs can help first-time home buyers purchase a home with little money down. FHA, USDA, and VA loans are options for qualifying borrowers, though many conventional mortgage lenders will lower down payment rates to as low as 3 percent.
