"I am a new customer with Service Professor, Inc. as of May 2021. In each of three service calls for routine system checks of my HVAC, plumbing, and furnace systems, I couldn't have been more satisfied with the professionalism of the individual tradesmen or with the customer service communication provided by friendly and patient office staff. This review is being posted especially to praise the exceptional routine service call provided by John Courtney on 10/11/2021. John presented as being a good listener and one who genuinely enjoyed his work and serving others. For example, he listened carefully to my questions and responded with detailed information that I could understand easily. And, after I commented to John about my previous positive interactions with Service Professor, Inc. tradesmen and with customer service staff, John responded by stating he has worked in the heating and cooling trade for 12 years and felt very fortunate, as a newer employee, to be able to work for an organization such as Service Professor that places caring and quality customer service communication among its most important priorities. I hope my comments encourage anyone seeking HVAC, plumbing, or furnace routine service or repair work to not hesitate to contact Service Professor."

"Fred is very professional, polite, honest, and a person of his word. Gave us a great quote, and stuck to it to the penny! Was actually 15 minutes early when he came to remove our 22 year old furnace and some of the ductwork and install a new 96% energy efficient gas furnace, and a humidifier. He told us the job would take 4-5 hours to complete, and it took him 5 hours, but that included cleaning up too. Left his work area clean, and even took the old furnace and duct work with him. Did a fantastic job, and we love our new Goodman furnace. We had gotten 4 quotes from different Heating & Cooling companies, and he was the most reasonable by far. My husband and I both liked Fred after meeting him and talking to him for a while, and knew he would be our choice to put in our new furnace. We highly recommend Fred Vanderstelt for your heating and cooling needs!"

"Luke and Austin did top notch work in explaining what I needed in a new furnace and air conditioner. Nicholas and Deâ Armond did great with the install and clean up. Thank you!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

A new HVAC system can increase your home's value by about 5% to 7%, which can translate to an added value of $2,500 to $3,000. The return on investment (ROI) can be around 30%, especially if you upgrade the entire system, including ductwork and insulation. Adding modern features like a smart thermostat can further increase your home’s value by making the heating and cooling systems more efficient and convenient. However, since a new unit can cost $10,000 or more to install, it's important to weigh the upfront cost against the potential increase in home value. For a specific assessment, it's best to consult a local AC installer.

A blocked return air vent can cause your HVAC system to work much harder and, therefore, less efficiently. The result is higher utility bills and poorer air quality. A blocked return air vent can also cause unpleasant dust, dander, and odors to linger in your home’s air.

Unfortunately, a freon leak will persist even when your AC unit is off. The freon in the AC unit is under pressure no matter the status of the system, so it will continue to drip through the leak even when you shut off the entire unit. It will continue to leak freon until it’s completely empty.

In most cases, homeowners insurance will cover an AC replacement if it was damaged due to a covered peril—such as theft, fire, or storms. So, if your air conditioner needs replacing due to regular wear and tear, your insurance company probably won’t pay for a new one. However, home warranties often cover HVAC repairs and replacements.

If your AC suddenly stops working, the first thing to check is your thermostat settings. Ensure the thermostat is set to the appropriate temperature and mode (cooling). Sometimes, a simple adjustment or replacing the batteries in the thermostat can resolve the issue. If that’s not the issue, look to see if the circuit breaker tripped. These basic checks can often identify simple fixes before you need to call for professional assistance.
