We are a full service property maintenance company. In addition we complete demos and complete remodels/builds as well.

"The work was top-notch, but their internal and customer-facing communication is weak. 90% of the job was as expected, but the last two items (shower doors) were installed without us approving the particular door. The owner will say they were approved, but that's not the case. One door we never saw pictures of at all, and for the other we got two cellphone pics of a computer screen saying "this is what we typically install." A month later that ultra-modern looking door was on the wall in my old farmhouse. Complaints on my part were met with threats and bullying until I paid the full balance. I finally decided it was worth missing out on the shower door to get rid of the guy. In the process of the job, I got emails from one person in the company about things that had already been decided by someone else, so it was obvious that the internal communication was weak as well. Glad I can be rid of this company. Too bad because the people they hired to do the actual work at the house were wonderful."

In most areas, dock builders need some type of license. In some states, only a general construction license might be necessary, while a marine construction license is required in others. You can check online to see which is mandatory in your area, and then you can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to make sure the company holds the proper license. Since dock construction is inherently dangerous, confirm with your builder that they are fully insured for everyone’s protection.

Boat docks need maintenance every year. Get an inspection at the end of each warm weather season, and remove the dock from the water if possible (if it’s made of wood) when not in use. You can also treat the wood to lessen the impact of moisture damage.

Most dock repairs take 1-5 days, depending on the extent of the damage and weather conditions affecting the work schedule.

Here are a few other considerations before you build, even if you're convinced you're in compliance with the law:

  • Are you damaging the environment? Bodies of water are often delicate ecosystems, and building a dock can be destructive and disruptive to the wildlife.

  • Are you blocking access? Lots of people like to use a lake, so you need to make sure your dock doesn't block public access to the water.

  • Can you enclose the dock? Just because you can build a dock doesn't mean you can build any dock you want. Some areas don't allow enclosed docks, for example.

  • Do you need to follow any specific rules or guidelines? Check with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Office for Coastal Management for any guidelines you’ll need to follow, including size and type restrictions.

Repair costs range from $500 to $5,000, depending on material type, structural damage, and labor. Extensive piling or decking replacements increase the price.
