"Lloyd and Brad did a wonderful job! They helped up with the design of the walk-in shower and the addition of a small linen closet in our master bathroom. The area was unfinished when we purchased the home recently, but now it looks amazing. We now have a beautiful walk-in shower with porcelain tile, glass accents, a marble bench, and a unique grab-bar. We are beyond thrilled with the final result. The bathroom they worked on is on the second floor with the only access being up a spiral staircase. They had to go up and down that staircase for all of their tile cutting, but did it with good humor:-) They work so well together that they are a pleasure to have in the home. They even helped my husband move a piece of furniture from the first floor to the second floor! I highly recommend this company for any tile work of bathroom/kitchen remodeling. Their work is high-quality; their prices are very reasonable, and they communicate well with customers. I will definitely call them again if I need any type of tile work."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

You don’t need electricity for a wood-burning stove unless it has a blower fan. Some wood-burning stoves include blower fans to help with heat distribution, but blower fans have a motor and use electricity to power the fan. You can still operate a wood stove without using the blower fan, so it’s a good source of heat if you have a power outage or are looking to lower your electric bill during winter.

Regular fireplace servicing is vital for safety and efficiency. You must inspect and clean wood-burning fireplaces annually to remove creosote buildup and address potential issues. Gas fireplaces benefit from annual inspections to ensure proper functioning and safety. More frequent servicing may be necessary if you use your fireplace extensively or live in an area with harsh winters. Always consult a local professional to establish a suitable servicing schedule for your fireplace.

Costs depend on stove type, venting complexity, and additional features like hearth pads or decorative finishes.

Although no heating appliance can be entirely risk-free, a fireplace insert is considered a safer alternative to a traditional open fireplace, thanks to their enclosed design. With a sealed combustion chamber, a fireplace insert effectively reduces the risk of sparks and embers escaping into the room, minimizing the chance of an accidental fire.

Additionally, an insert comes equipped with various safety features, such as tempered glass doors that create a barrier between the flames and the surrounding space. This enhances both safety and energy efficiency by preventing heat loss. As an added bonus, many inserts are designed to meet strict safety standards that ensure proper ventilation and combustion.

Your fireplace flue is open when the chimney is unsealed and open to the outside air and sky. That’s why one of the best ways to figure out if your flue is open is to visually check for daylight inside of your chimney—or to feel for a draft, which may be generated by the difference in temperatures inside and outside of your home.
