Emergency services offered

"Kevin was great, he was very responsive on a Saturday and came to hang a new door for me the next day. The installation was more complicated than I originally anticipated. The hinges, deadbolt and door knob did not align with the existing cut outs. Kevin did a great job making the door look like it was pre-hung on the existing frame."

"I have used Far North for a number of projects from carpentry to electrical to furniture design and home remodeling work. Nate is great at setting expectations, partnering on the outcome and design goals, and is transparent with his pricing. Highly recommend him ; and if the job is outside his wheelhouse, heâ  ll let you know."

"Nothing stops this team of energetic, upbeat young men who work a tremendous number of hours each day and do not even stop for rainstorms in order to get a job done. Their price is reasonable, their work is great, their work ethic is amazing, and they take pride in their workmanship. Our roof is very big and has a lot of sections, which makes it complicated. But Building Brothers worked methodically and meticulously to do the job perfectly. They are also unfailingly polite and considerate. Not only did they do an excellent job, but they do the best cleanup I've ever seen. If I could give them a rating above 5, I would!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.

Duration varies by project size, but average-sized homes typically take a weeks.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.
