"They were on time. Very friendly and professional. There were problems with some of the materials in the kit and they had to fix some of them to put it together. They were here for over 8 hours, didn't even break for lunch. Even though they were here longer than expected they didn't change more than they had estimate. They did a great job and I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing work done"

Customers say: True professional

"Did a wonderful job and takes pride in his work. He was adding a railing to the stairs and replacing stair treads and discovered problems with the raisers. Replaced those as well and provided a competitive price for the amount of work that was completed. We had specific concerns about having this done quickly. Gavin assisted in making sure that he was able to complete the stairs on time despite the additional work. We were happy with the work and outcome."

"I had B's Painting & do some carpentry and painting work for me. Brandon Aiken called me back right away and I had a written estimate within 48 hours. Brandon is very good at what he does, his pricing was reasonable, and the quality work was completed within his initial estimate and time frame promised."

"We originally had Rick rebuild all new kitchen cabinets along with several other kitchen improvements. He and his work impressed us, and ultimately we brought him back to do windows, garage work, and recently he has completed a "man cave, including bar' in our basement. All this came at a reasonable price! Rick gets our recommendation."

"These guys did a remarkable job. They put in a full days work to make a pool deck that had long been neglected look like new again! I highly recommend them to anyone that needs power washing. They did not miss a spot! Really nice guys, hard workers, very respectful!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Bow windows need support because they are large and extend out from the exterior wall of the home. Bow windows may extend 1 foot to several feet from the outside of the home, so you’ll need to provide additional support to handle this weight. A window contractor will be able to provide the proper amount of support for your new bow window.

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.

When choosing a drywall anchor, consider the weight of the object you're hanging and how much weight the anchor will need to support. The heavier the weight, the stronger the anchor you'll need. You’ll find the weight capacity on the packaging when shopping for anchors.

Also, remember that you can use more than one anchor when hanging something on the wall. If you're using multiple anchors, divide the object weight by the number of anchors to determine how much each will need to support. If you need help deciding which drywall anchor to use, you can hire a handyperson to hang your objects.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.
