"Went very well. Crew was here at 7 in AM and did not leave uintil 6 PM. Took 2 days to do job. Very professional, respected my property. Cleaned up job site completely. Dumpster was picked up next working day, as well as unused materials. Love this roof. What I liked was that payment was not due until job was completed, except for a small deposit to purchase the roofing material."

"The workers were great and worked in some rough weather. The roof looked great when finished. There is a small customer satisfaction issue that keeps me from giving them an A across the board. I had a major leak around my skylight during the very next heavy rain. The roofer came out the following day without a ladder so he could not get a good look at the skylight but did point out a problem with my gutters which I fixed the following day. I took a good look at my skylight while I was up there and found the flashing in the back had popped off at some point and fixed it. So most of my leak is fixed. The end caps/flashing on my skylight however went missing. That is my issue. They said they would be back but have not showed up. If you get a new roof I suggest new flashing on everything. Insist on it."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Common skylight issues include leaks, condensation between glass panes, damaged seals, and cracks in the glazing. Regular exposure to weather elements can lead to these problems, requiring timely attention to preserve the integrity of the skylight and the surrounding roof structure.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

Yes, you can install skylights on an existing roof, and it’s a common service that many homeowners opt for, especially on older homes built when skylights weren’t as prevalent. The installation process will be a bit more involved, and the design and planning process will take longer, meaning you’ll pay more to install a skylight on an existing roof than you would in new construction. The process involves cutting a hole in the roof, moving rafters, if necessary, and installing and sealing around the skylight.

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.
