Customers say: Quick response

"Don replaced two exterior doors for me. These doors were almost 30 years old and presented some challenges. Don did a great job with the installation, repairing unforeseen issues as needed, reassembled interior molding and all with great attention to detail. I would not hesitate to have him back."

"My experience with Erick was amazing from coordinating the repair of a door that was hung wrong to the work being completed and a quality finish. His craftsmanship is awesome. He is also meticulous about cleaning up any mess left behind. I will be hiring him for more projects in the near future when his time permits, and you should too!"

"Rick did removed cabinets for us in the kitchen and put in new lighting. He also did a lot of work finishing our basement. He put up a ceiling, a wall, built us a custom wet bar and finished all the basement trim. His quality of work is excellent, he is so easy to work with and is very flexible. His prices are great too. We will be calling Rick again for all of our future projects!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

WD-40 can temporarily silence a squeaky door hinge, but it is not recommended as a long-term solution. While it is effective at breaking down rust and grime, it contains very little lubricant and evaporates quickly. Using WD-40 can also attract dirt and dust to the hinges, which may cause more wear and tear over time. For a more lasting fix, after cleaning the hinge, apply a true lubricant. Better options include silicone spray, white lithium grease, metal or plastic lubricants, or oil-based products like petroleum jelly.

You can use wood, metal, or plastic as a door shim, but keep in mind that wood will rot easier than the other two materials. Your local hardware store should have at least one type in stock. Alternatively, you can trim a piece of cardboard to fit underneath your door hinge and work as a temporary, makeshift door shim.

You can determine what size storm door you need by measuring for the storm door. Take the width at the top, middle, and bottom of either your front door or an existing storm door, then measure the height on the left, center, and right of the door. Buy a storm door that matches your measurements' smallest width and shortest height.

It’s certainly easier to paint a door while it’s still on its hinges, but you may get better results if you remove it from the hinges. Painting a door off the hinges allows you to work on it horizontally, making prep work easier, reducing drips, and allowing undisturbed drying time.

A hollow core door has an average life expectancy of about 20 to 40 years, with most lasting 30 years before they need to be replaced. Doors that are well cared for can last on the longer end, as long as no severe damage occurs.
