Small jobs welcome

"Nate was extremely professional, spent time assessing the power wash of the house, coming back with a competitive estimate. He explained every step of the job to be done, particularly a difficult issue to clean. He demonstrated a level of resourcefulness, in particular to the difficult issue of vine clinging to the vinyl siding. His promptness and efficiency seem to be some of the hallmarks of his work ethic. I highly recommend Nate for power washing of house."

"I contacted Mr Costello he came out on schedule, gave me a fair price, I agreed to have the work done. Mr Costello and his crew pressure cleaned, repaired, and stained my front and back decks. They look like brand new. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Mr Costello for all the excellent work."

"Andy did an excellent job of cleaning 20 years of bottom paint off the bottom of my 21 foot fiberglass boat. Paint was removed to the boot stripe and there was no damage to the glass. The work was completed in my yard which was left clean with no residue. Great job"

"These are the most skilled, professional painters I've ever used. Their work was meticulous, the results are outstanding. They arrived on time, kept a very tidy work area, and were courteous and respectful of my privacy in my home while they painted the exterior. They were especially knowledgable about the type of exterior stain my house required. I'd recommend Stuart's to anyone who wants superior quality results delivered on time and within budget."

"I HIRED THIS PRO J Costello Painting We recently contacted J Costello Painting through Home Advisor. We were looking for someone to paint our deck, a deck that has been over-painted a number of times. The deck had significant peeling and chipping. Joe Costello responded quickly and visited our home to review the project. His assessment was thorough and thoughtful; his extensive experience and input were helpful to us in making our decision. He was patient and thoroughly explained the process and materials that he would use. As expected, the prep work to get the deck ready for staining was extensive and expertly done. In the end, the price was very fair. Because the deck project went so well, once it started, we also hired J Costello Painting to refurbish our front porch, as well. The results are beyond expectation. We couldn?t be happier with the results. The staff of J Costello Painting is first rate. Great planning, great follow-through/follow-up, great execution! Guess where we?re starting with our next house painting."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Increases livable area and enhances aesthetic, often boosting property appeal.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

With proper installation and maintenance, a vinyl deck can last up to 30 years. Factors like regular cleaning, minimal wear and tear, proper installation, and the use of higher-grade materials can extend its durability. However, extreme weather conditions or neglecting maintenance might shorten its lifespan. Adhering to manufacturer recommendations for care and occasional inspections can significantly prolong a vinyl deck's longevity.

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.

What goes under your floating deck depends on your preferences. Some homeowners put landscaping fabric underneath their decks to prevent weeds from popping up through the boards. Others choose to build a floating deck over grass or gravel. However, it’s best not to set your deck directly on the ground. Instead, set your deck on blocks to keep it elevated enough to prevent moisture from rotting the wood.
