"Great experience from begining to end, we are planning on having more work done in the near and far future. Resonably priced and the work was done extremely efficiently and the project area was cleaned and neat when the crew left."

Customers say: Quick response

"Such a great company with an eye for detail! Rick was professional, courteous and honest. They showed up as promised every day and communicated with us throughout the project. Price was more than fair and the attention to detail was more than we had ever expected for the price that we were given. He turned our driveway which was muddy, rutted, and just an overall mess into a solid, well drained, flat and clean driveway that left us blown away in how perfect it looked and felt! They even stacked rocks at our ditch, added drainage and fabric in an area that was always a soupy mess and put down crushed rock before laying the gravel. We have a driveway that we now want to show off to everyone! We would recommend him and his guys to anyone who asks!"

"Bart Costello came over and gave me an estimate for a driveway seal coating with an oil-based product. He and his small crew arrived on time and trimmed grass that had grown out onto the driveway. Good job on that. Then he sprayed the sealant while his crew back-brushed. They even did a 40-foot walkway that was not quoted -- and did not charge extra for that. My driveway is 25 years old and badly cracked. It will eventually have to be rebuilt. But I think the new sealcoat will buy me a few years before I have to face that $15,000 job. For now, the driveway's looks have been greatly enhanced. I would definitely recommend him."

"The crew started earlier than scheduled. They did everything they said they would despite blistering heat and high humidity. They treated my property like it was their own. They came in spot on budget and handled a few wrinkles in stride. Highly recommend Concrete Solutions."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

The material that’s best for your private road depends on your property, the climate in your area, and your personal preferences. Gravel is an affordable option, but some homeowners don’t like how it looks. It can be a pain to remove snow from, and it requires more ongoing maintenance than asphalt or concrete. However, while these other options require less maintenance and make snow removal a breeze, they’re more expensive and will need repairs from time to time. Ultimately, you’ll have to choose the road material that suits you and your property best.

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

The choice between asphalt and concrete depends on your priorities, budget, and climate.

Concrete is generally more durable, lasting up to 50 years with minimal upkeep, and offers more customization options like staining and stamping, which can add more to a home's value. However, it is more expensive upfront and can be prone to cracking in cold climates where water can freeze and expand.

Asphalt is typically cheaper and quicker to install and is easier to repair. It performs better in colder climates. However, it requires more maintenance, including regular resealing, has a shorter lifespan, and can get hot and sticky in intense sunlight.

Ultimately, if durability and long-term value are key, concrete is often the better choice. If upfront cost and performance in cold weather are more important, asphalt may be preferable.

There’s no single best asphalt grade—it all comes down to where and how it’s used. Highways and heavy-traffic roads need something tough, like polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) or Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Local roads and parking lots rely on the Performance Graded (PG) system, chosen based on climate. A PG 64-28 mix, for example, handles a broad temperature range while simpler, more cost-effective mixes are typically enough for residential driveways. The best grade of asphalt depends on traffic, weather, and your budget, which is why a professional’s input is always a smart move before making a decision.
