"Everything about Able Electrical Services service was superb! I was in a jam, and Able Electrical Services came to the rescue. Both of the mechanics that assisted were excellent. Russell Ridgway was the primary mechanic and he was amazing! His work is superior and he exceeded my expectations every step of the way. For example, I needed electrical outlets to connect install a wet bar. He measured the wet bar and installed the outlets exactly where they were needed and ensured sufficient power was added to accommodate a kegerator and mini-frigs. I highly recommend Able Electrical Services and hope I never need to use any other electrician."

"I hired K & K to install a range hood. There was no electrical there previously so they had to run electric. I also had them install a new light fixture and remove an exhaust fan. K & K did excellent work and even repaired an electrical box that another contractor had installed. I was given a great estimate and was charged the estimate price. Would definitely use again and recommend."

"I had an excellent experience with Clinton Electric Co. overall and the electrician they sent, Eric Shipley. Communications before the visit were prompt, professional, and geared toward promoting confidence. Electrician was also courteous and professional throughout the visit, provided excellent communications as to expected costs and the diagnostic he was performing, and performed the work quickly and efficiently (tested the wiring, replaced electrical outlets, installed new circuit breaker, and tested to confirm all outlets and the dishwasher were working). Provided email with invoice before leaving the visit. Company communications practices geared toward safety and inspired confidence - dispatcher provided name of electrician before visit; company also texted and emailed photo of electrician prior to visit. Electrician wore mask and followed safe COVID-19 practices. I was very pleased and would use this company again, as well as highly recommend them."

"I was referred to Kolb Electric by my home warranty service.  There were two issues, both in the bathroom:  1.  The light fixture did not work.  I had changed the bulb but still no light.  Could not determine the issue on my own so I contacted an electrician.  2.  One of the two plugs on the outlet did not work.  The latter issue was relatively easy to resolve.  The repair person happened to have a GFI receptacle and was able to replace.  He noted that the cost was normally $30 + tax for the part but he did not charge me.  The reset had broken on the other one.   With the former issue, the technician was taking a very long time (more than 30 mins) to diagnose the problem.  His conclusion was that i needed a new fixture entirely.  The one I had was a T12 ballast fixture and he recommended a T8 ballast fixture.  I asked him to explain the rationale as well as the difference between the two.  He didn't provide a very thorough or  clear explanation, except to repeatedly say that I needed a new fixture.  In reality, what he was recommending was a new striplight--not a new fixture.  [Note:  I purchased a new T8 light strip from Amazon for a whopping $16.45.]  When I asked if he was able to make this repair, he noted that he had to contact my home warranty service to get approval.  I could not recall immediately if my home warranty covered parts, etc.  I looked through my files for a copy of the policy while he spoke with the home warranty service via phone.  He shared with me that he'd now been at my home for more than an hour, and there would be charges for subsequent time.  [Note:  He was on the phone with the home warranty company from 8:49 am - 9:20 am.]  I asked him how he'd calculated that, since it had been less than an hour, and he said that he included the time it took him to find parking.  Even now, nearly two years later as I write this, I still can't believe he actually said that.  If every repair or service person charged their customers in DC for time they search for parking, no one would ever be able to afford a repair service.  This is a major metropolitan city and you're arriving during the AM rush hour (arrived at 7:40 am).  As he spoke (allegedly) to the warranty company, presumably his dispatcher/supervisor and me, he kept changing the cost to stay--from $246 to $305 to $185 (for the fixture alone) to $270.  At this point, I decided to wrap up our interaction, and told him I'd be in touch if I needed him (which I never would).  I gave him a check for $75--the cost per the warranty company for the visit.  In the end, I never called him or Kolb back.  It took 2 more electricians to diagnose the problem (see my POSITIVE review of A Action Home Services).  In the end, it wasn't the fixture at all.  A neutral connection had to be repaired.  Once that was fixed, and a new bulb installed, ta-da:  light!  I'm being generous with my rating mostly because he did fix the plug.

"I needed an electrical outlet under my bath vanity in order for the plumber to install a point of use tankless water heater. Mark was quick to respond with a quote that was much less expensive than another electrician and didn't need the extra "fluff" that I would have been charged. Came on time and the work was done with precision (the plumber even admired the work!) :-)"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Electrical maintenance in Towson should include monthly GFCI outlet tests and quarterly checks of AFCI breakers. Before hurricane season, inspect outdoor wiring and fixtures, and in winter, look for ice buildup on exterior components. Regularly test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, trim back vegetation near outdoor panels, and inspect for corrosion in humid basements. For older homes, schedule a professional inspection every 3–5 years.

Helpful?

For electrical maintenance in Towson, keep a non-contact voltage tester, digital multimeter, GFCI outlet tester, and a set of screwdrivers available. Stock weather-resistant outlet covers, high-humidity electrical tape, and surge protectors for storm preparation. It’s helpful to have replacement GFCI outlets, wire nuts, and emergency lighting. For new circuit installations or service upgrades, always consult a local professional to ensure safety.

Helpful?

To make your Towson home safer for kids and pets, install tamper-resistant outlets and use secure outlet covers in living areas. Lock electrical panels and use cord protectors to prevent chewing. In finished basements, ensure outlets are GFCI-protected and placed at safe heights. With Towson’s frequent storms, consider whole-house surge protection and add motion-sensor lights for safer movement at night.

Helpful?

In Towson, the timeline for electrical projects depends on the home’s age and project complexity. Outlet installation or replacement typically takes 1–2 hours per outlet, while a circuit breaker panel upgrade may require 1–2 days, especially in older Towson homes with original wiring. Whole house rewiring often takes 3–7 days. Permit processing and seasonal weather, such as winter storms, can also affect completion times.

Helpful?

In Towson, using extension cords as permanent solutions, overloading circuits during cold snaps, and skipping regular GFCI outlet testing can all reduce the lifespan of your electrical system. Allowing moisture to build up in humid summers or letting shrubs grow near outdoor panels causes premature wear. Using bulbs with higher wattage than recommended, especially in older fixtures, is a common issue in Towson homes.
