"Rue did a wonderful job. Will always call him for any tree issues. He had to remove two dead trees, and one tree that had fallen during the last wind and rain storm. He arrived on time and when he was finished it was like nothing had ever happened."

"Luckily I speak Spanish so I was able to communicate with the workers what needed to be done. The supervisor showed up later, but the person who initially evaluated the trees did not come back on site. Mr. Castro was very friendly when he was out and, while not an arborist, seemed to know his stuff. The catch was that the guys who came, while very good workers and very nice, were not arborists either so they were asking me what I preferred as far as cutting back the branches. This is not my specialty so I had a hard time figuring out if more needed to be done.
The price was right and the trees look nice now. I would have preferred to have an arborist who could give me advice on what exactly should be cut back and to over see the work.

"We have been using Blades of Green for years and their service is outstanding. Our lawn is often commented on because even through Winter it is lush and green. Their mole control service has cleared our yard of tunnels and holes. Every Fall we have their aeration and over seeding done and this service has kept our yard looking beautiful and healthy. All of the technicians that have come out are knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I strongly recommend this company to anyone who wants quality service for their yard!"

"Amazingly, I had left a huge pile of brush on my property that was going to take me at least six pick-up loads to take to the trump. While my trees and stumps were being removed, his assistant fed ALL of this brush into their chipper and ate it all up, RAKED the area, and hauled away the chips. AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. This was unbelievable to the point where I almost had a heart attack. I have never heard of someone in the tree service trade just see this kind of a need, realize that they have the equipment and can take care of it, and then do so. Finally, Brad is a Vietnam War pilot and veteran. His support of rehabilitating old service dogs rather than letting them be euthanized, is LEGION in the armed forces. He is an incredible human being. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Light-bark trees are most notorious for producing lots of sap when wounded. These varieties include maples, birches, poplars, dogwoods, magnolias, and elms, and they will bleed more when the trees are dormant. That’s why it’s a good idea to prune them in the summer months rather than waiting until winter.

If you aren’t sure what you’re doing, be very careful when cutting mature tree roots (roots larger than 2 inches). Root cutting and pruning can affect both a tree’s stability and its ability to nourish itself. Issues during root cutting can result in damage or injury.

It’s recommended you call in a pro to help, unless it’s a very small tree and you aren’t worried about the prospect of losing the tree.

Pruning trees during the summer can be a bad idea because the new growth will take place during the hottest months of the year, which can stress your tree out. Similarly, pruning during the early fall can be a bad idea, too, because you’d be stimulating new growth when most trees are aiming to go dormant.

Pruning recommendations will vary by the type of tree, but generally, waiting until winter to prune your trees is a good idea.

Planting trees far enough from your foundation will protect your home from root damage, but if you’re dealing with existing trees, you can still guard against roots. Root barriers form a physical boundary that will prevent roots from encroaching on your foundation and can help save you from expensive foundation repair costs.

Opt for a barefoot tree. Pros harvest barefoot trees when they’re dormant (leafless). They shake the dirt from the root ball and pack it in moist material.

These trees can cost half as much as the trees at your local nursery, and you can buy them online—so there’s a much wider selection. Just make sure you keep your barefoot tree cool until you’re ready to plant it.
