"Christina and Andreas were quite thorough in their bids for 1) replacing 2 skylights, 2 replacing small deck leading from kitchen to our patio and 3 replacing roof on our shed. All work was with extreme care. There was very little drywall dust in replacing the skylights with their drop cloths catching what did fall. The deck' carpentry was done with precision cuts. Sub framing was replaced with more than adequate sub structure. They matched our roof for both the necessary rework around the kitchen skylights and just replacing the top half of out Dutch colonial style barn. I recommend them for your roofing, skylights and home improvement needs."

"Very responsive! From the get-go, the main office connected me with their skylight expert, HB, who provided great information and responded quickly to my numerous questions. The work was scheduled quickly. Salome showed up early for the scheduled appointment, which was fantastic since I had to leave for work. Everyone at the company was extremely professional and the work looks great. Very competitive price."

"Hired for gutter cleaning only March 2016. They inspected my roof and said it cracked .Hired Champion to install new roof. They quoted roof costs and ignored 3 skylights on roof. They ripped off old roof when weather was wet, and said I needed new skylights. They charged additional $2000 on top of roof that was NOT agreed at the time of original contract. Without roof in wet weather, I had to agree to additional highlights costs. They were not sealed properly, and leaked. 32 mph winds went through with howling, loud noises over my head. Damages continued for 3 weeks, after they said problems would be fixed."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.

Most homeowners insurance policies cover skyight damage that is caused by hail. Hail damage is considered a covered peril under most standard insurance policies. However, this only applies if your skylights were properly installed. Also, insurance policies vary, so be sure to check your individual policy to see if skylight hail damage is covered.

Yes, reputable manufacturers typically provide warranties for their roof windows and skylights, and many installers also offer a labor warranty, although labor warranties often don’t last as long as the manufacturer’s warranty. A warranty from a skylight manufacturer is helpful in the event of leaks or other damage down the road on this type of home feature. The length of time and the terms of the warranty may vary, so it's important to review the details before making a purchase.

Professionals repair or seal a skylight by inspecting for damages, resealing any gaps with appropriate weatherproofing materials, replacing cracked glass or seals, and ensuring the frame is tightly fitted to prevent future leaks and ensure proper drainage.

Yes, you can install skylights on an existing roof, and it’s a common service that many homeowners opt for, especially on older homes built when skylights weren’t as prevalent. The installation process will be a bit more involved, and the design and planning process will take longer, meaning you’ll pay more to install a skylight on an existing roof than you would in new construction. The process involves cutting a hole in the roof, moving rafters, if necessary, and installing and sealing around the skylight.
