Meyer Electrical is an electrical contractor in Bethesda, MD. At Meyer Electrical our customer service goal is to provide the most effective solutions for home improvement or commercial repair. Our truck is fully stocked with materials and tools, and we are always ready for any type of electrical work. 4 employees. Additional DBA - Meyer Electrical Services Inc.

"I reached out to Walt to install a dryer outlet. He got the job scheduled quickly and I was thrilled to get it done fast. I asked for a quote and was told one would be provided - but that didn't happen. Without providing a quote or calling me to explain anything, his team finished the job and then charged nearly $1,000. There was an additional outlet install but was not explained to us why it was necessary. Research from reputable online sources estimated the job to be between $150-300, depending on the length of copper wire ($300 for 30 ft of wire). When I called Walt to ask why the work was carried out without a quote, or if it was common practice to charge people $1,000 without giving them a heads up, he began to berate me and literally SCREAM at me, telling me what I read online was "not real". I repeatedly asked for him not to yell at me and asked if this was his common business practice - to which he got more angry and demanded I pay him immediately (when I asked how he would like to be paid). I would seriously advise AGAINST using Walt / Meyer and will be spreading my experience to help others avoid them same mistake."

"Very poor and unfair inspection. I have water coming into my house due to a contractor putting shorter gutters than what I originally had and the rain diverter is short too. I have water flowing into my house because there is nothing to take the water away. I never had any problems with my leaks in my house until this. The inspector, Robert Push, took pictures of other things other than the cause of the problem. When I pointed to him the evidence of what the cause of the issue showing the water marks streaming down from the roof in between the short gutter and short diverter, he ignored what I showed him and began to find other things to take photos of that had no relation or was even in the vicinity of the problem area to make his report look “professional”. He was hired by the contractor and was biased to what evidence I had. I even had video of that day and told him and he said nothing. The jargon in the report was constantly beating around the bush to what the problem was, saying that I should do a water test and then his conclusion was that it was wind driven rain that caused the problem. How can he make an analysis like that when he performed no tests and was at my house on a sunny day. The day I had the water come in there were no strong winds and I have video proving everything. If you are a contractor that wants to get away with some shady stuff, then these may be the people for you. But their inspection was very unprofessional, poor, and lacked integrity."

"This man stole thousands of dollars from us. We fired him 6 months in to what was supposed to be a 4-6 week job after only doing a fraction of the work...all done out of order with constant delays. The owner Mr Borman, is a dishonest and incompetent con who won’t return our money. He has devalued our property and brought great hardship."

Earthquake Retrofitting questions, answered by experts

Earthquake retrofitting can increase your home value, making it a great return on investment. This feature is especially valuable in areas prone to earthquakes. Besides the increased safety value (not only for your family but for the next family who moves in), earthquake retrofitting also helps lower homeowners insurance rates. In addition, having your home earthquake retrofitted can make it easier to get a home loan since they are considered lower risk.

Many homeowners want to know whether earthquake retrofitting is tax deductible. Because it’s often considered a capital improvement, you usually can’t deduct it. In some cases and locations, you may qualify for tax incentives, but you’ll need to talk to a tax professional or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) about your specific circumstances. You may also be able to find grant money for seismic upgrades, which can lower the cost of your insurance premiums and save money over time.

Even if you invested in the cost of a gas shut-off valve for your oven and other appliances, it’s a good idea to add a seismic shut-off valve as an extra safety measure.

Gas shut-off valves for appliances are manual, meaning someone has to cut off the flow of gas. This leaves room for error, as you might not be home or might be too distracted to think about gas lines during an earthquake. An earthquake valve is automatic and will protect your home from gas-related disasters in the event of an earthquake.

Earthquake gas shut-off valves, or seismic gas shut-off valves, are safety devices that attach to your natural gas line. When an earthquake hits, the valve automatically turns off the flow of gas. Earthquake gas shut-off valves can prevent gas leaks, which are especially dangerous after a quake due to the risk of fire and explosion.

Depending on where you live, your insurance company may require you to have a seismic shut-off valve. It depends on local regulations along with the specific provider. If it’s not a requirement, many providers will offer a discount if you install an earthquake valve, which can save you 5% or more. Contact your provider to learn about potential savings for your plan.
