"I needed to have a piano moved from one house to another. I was a little anxious about this because it was a 50+ year old player piano, very heavy and needed to go down a set of steps. When I requested an estimate, Ted responded back quickly. The price was so much less than I expected. Ted was very accommodating to my schedule. The gentlemen were on time, very professional and handled my piano with great care. I would definitely hire them again should the need arise."

"All Service Moving was exceptional. Great customer service - easy to schedule and flexible. Royce & Frost did an AMAZING job moving all of our very heavy and fragile belongings. They handled all of our requests and items with care and worked both efficiently and quickly. They were super friendly and very customer service oriented. I can't thank them enough for the GREAT job they did. I highly recommend All Service Moving for anything moving and/or storage related. And DEFINITELY request Royce & Frost to handle your job. "I'm having trouble finding the right words to describe our experience with Potomac Moving Company, but "amazing" and "game changers" come to mind. This was an interstate move (DC to PA) in less-than-ideal conditions (we had to move an adult family member out of the apartment). The crew, Roberto and Harry, were empathetic, caring, and incredibly efficient with packing, loading, and unloading the one-bedroom apartment. I spent the day worrying (needlessly) that the storage unit I had rented was too small. The crew fit all of the items neatly and safely into a 5x10' unit with room to spare. I've never seen anything like it. I also want to give kudos to the front office. They were the first company to respond to my inquiry, answered all of my questions patiently, and kept us informed about when the crew was arriving. The value that we received for the price was off the charts. Put Potomac Moving Company at the top of your list. I would not hesitate to call them again for a move if the"

"This was a challenging move because the timetable was fluid, the starting hospital was doing substantial renovations including around the loading dock, there are numerous security barriers, the contents were transported from one to two offices and the property being moved was atypical. GJ Moving just smiled, packed it all up and moved the stuff. They were ahead of schedule and under budget at the end."

"This is the BEST moving company we have ever worked with. My fiancé and I have had to move 7 times in the past 6 years so we have worked with many movers. Prices were great and 100% transparent. The awesome team we got were Terrence, Anthony, and Reggie. They made this process stress fee and so easy. They were so kind and helped us put together our beds. Anthony, their driver, absolutely crushed it with navigating that truck as well! 10/10"

"Man, I gotta give a huge shoutout to Haul Bros Moving! These guys are the real deal. From the jump, their pricing was straight-up transparent?no hidden fees, no surprise charges, no funny business. They told me exactly what to expect, and that's exactly what I paid. But what really blew me away was their work ethic. The crew showed up on time, worked their tails off, and handled all my stuff like it was their own. They were hustling the whole time, stayed professional, and still kept a great attitude. You can tell these dudes actually care about doing a solid job. Moving is usually a total headache, but Haul Bros made the whole process smooth and stress-free. If you're looking for movers who are honest, hardworking, and just flat-out awesome at what they do, don't sleep on Haul Bros Moving. These guys crushed it! Highly recommend 10/10."

Moving questions, answered by experts

Moving a one-bedroom apartment yourself can range from $150 to more than $1,500, depending on distance, the amount of belongings you have, and more. On the other hand, the cost of hiring movers for a one-bedroom apartment is around $1,850 on average. You’ll save money with the DIY route, but the process is much more labor-intensive and time-consuming.

The best way to transport a TV is to wrap and pack it tightly in a TV moving box with plenty of padding to protect it from damage. If a box is not available, you can use moving straps and moving blankets to secure the TV in an upright position within the moving vehicle. To prevent it from shifting during transportation, place large pieces of furniture around it for stability.

Start by removing any obstacles in the moving path, such as side tables, lamps, or other furniture. If your couch has legs, unscrew them. Measure the couch and the stairway to ensure you have enough room; if it seems unlikely, examine the shape and size of the couch and decide whether it might fit better up the stairway and through doorways on its side, held diagonally, or moved in an upright position.

Consider putting the sofa on a dolly to go up the stairs. It should be able to fit upright on a standard dolly with wheels. You’ll still need to lift the dolly—with the couch on it—up the stairs, but it will reduce the physical strain. The person holding the dolly should pull the couch up, while the helper should be on the other side, keeping the couch secure and steady.

If you don’t have a dolly, the person in front should lift the couch slightly higher than the person in the back to create more stability. The person in the back should also be the stronger mover, as most of the weight will be distributed there.

Yes, there are sometimes hidden costs when hiring a moving company. These can include fees for packing, handling, and assembling specific large items, fees for packing materials used, and charges for trips over a certain mileage. To avoid hidden fees, always request a detailed quote before booking or paying a deposit.

Planning your office move should ideally start three to six months or more in advance. This timeframe allows plenty of time for tasks such as researching moving companies, creating a budget, coordinating with employees, decluttering and organizing, packing, and addressing any logistical challenges. Starting early also ensures that you have flexibility in scheduling and can handle unexpected hiccups that may arise during the planning process.
