In anticipation of a prospective move, we conducted a Google search for moving companies and were pleased to discover the first reference on Google recommended using influential sites such as AngiÂ’s List (and one other). Based upon our previous successful efforts utilizing AngiÂ’s List, we sought estimates from the three (3) companies recommended on that List.
We were considering consolidating SOME furniture from our home in Ocean View, Delaware, augmented with two (2) pieces of furniture purchased from a store in Selbyville, Delaware, during its going-out-of-business sale, to a new home we have purchased in Sykesville, Maryland.
On August 25, 2025, we requested, by telephone, an estimate from each of the three movers recommended on AngiÂ’s List. EACH was asked for an estimate for a move from our home in Ocean View, with an additional stop at the furniture store in Selbyville, DE, to our new home in Sykesville, MD. A phone call was placed to Good View Moving of New Jersey, one of the three; a Good View Moving representative, Marlon, returned my call.
I informed him of our situation, providing him with the addresses for 1) the Delaware home, 2) the furniture store in Delaware, and 3) the new Maryland home, AND gave him the FULL list of items to be moved AND FROM WHICH LOCATION (below).
I explained that the furniture store was closing its business, and we were under time constraints, from THEM, to pick up the furniture we had purchased there. He assured me that accommodating that situation, i.e., the second stop, would NOT be a problem.
The move included furniture from three (3) rooms, but in NO case was all of the furniture removed from any of the rooms.
The only packing involved was the bedroom mirror.
I also requested that 2 wooden file cabinets be moved, in our DE home, from the garage to the 2nd floor of that DE home. These were delivered to and kept in the garage to make the removal of the bed from the bedroom easier, i.e., eliminating possible obstacles in removing the bed. We always intended that the file cabinets would be in the bedroom eventually, but left them in the garage to make the move easier.
There were no bins or boxes to be moved. THIS WAS THE COMPLETE LIST and TASKS; ALL OF THESE WERE DISCUSSED WITH Marlon.
GOODVIEW MOVING
Marlon gave me an estimate, over the phone, of $1,512.03. After receiving estimates from the other companies, this proved to be the most affordable estimate, BUT, MOST IMPORTANTLY, the one which could accommodate moving in August, satisfying the demands/requests of the furniture store, whose final closure date was approaching.
My husband called Good View the morning of the following day and spoke to Waed about our decision to use their services. She explained that Marlon was not in, due to a family emergency, but she could complete the arrangements. My husband reiterated all of the details of the move, VERBATIM, to Waed. However, she said that there was NO indication, she had not been told, about EITHER the 2nd stop OR the sofa and loveseat, that the expense of BOTH MUST BE added to the estimated cost. The cost to add the second stop was $200, which she offered to discount to $100. The cost to add the sofa and loveseat would be based on a scale based on their assessments of cubic feet for each item. THE NEW ESTIMATE WAS NOW $1,748.00.
However, Waed ASSURED my husband that the move could still be accomplished on Saturday, August 30. Waed informed my husband that she would need a deposit representing 40% of the estimate to finalize the arrangement(s). Waed sent a link to a website through which the deposit could be effected; she assured my husband that she would call him/us when she received notice of the deposit, and that the schedule/accommodations for the move would be finalized.
Waed DID CALL that afternoon, acknowledged receipt of the deposit ($723.67 on my Visa card) and confirmed our arrangement, confirmed in the intervening hours with her superior, AGAIN giving us her assurances that the move could be accomplished on Saturday, August 30. We expressed our appreciation, reiterating THAT WE WERE UNDER PRESSURE FROM THE FURNITURE STORE TO PICK UP THE SOFA AND seat before its FINAL CLOSURE.
On Friday, August 29, I received a call from another Good View coordinator, Amy, who confirmed all arrangements and requested a deposit of 40% of the total, which we could pay with a credit card. I informed her that final arrangements, AND the deposit, had already been made, AND ACKNOWLEDGED, by Waed. As became critically important subsequently, there was NO OTHER discussion by anyone from Good View about the FINAL payment methods.
If there were not sufficient warnings by then, Amy called back and stated that they could not move us on Saturday, August 30, but could move us on Sunday, August 31. Reluctantly, I agreed to the Sunday move.
THEN, two hours later, Amy called again and asked if the entire move could be moved to Monday, September 1. I told her that since our move had already been rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday, we were not willing to change it to Monday. We had already informed the furniture store about BOTH OF THESE CHANGES, WHICH FRUSTRATED STORE MANAGEMENT. After speaking to her manager, she called me back and said they could pick up everything on Sunday, but delivery must be made on Monday.
Rather than continue this run-around, I agreed to the pick-up on Sunday with delivery on Monday.
