"Joe and the crew from E Stanley did a great job widening our driveway. The job consisted of three parts. First, dig under the existing driveway and remove the roots that were growing underneath. Second, dig a couple of feet on both sides of our existing driveway to widen it out. Finally, pour asphalt on top of the driveway to replace the old one. Joe came in at the best price and finish the entire job in a single day.."

Customers say: Quality work

"They came at the appointed time, and were very courteous, and were very knowledgeable about the trees. Removed the two large dead pine trees, took everything away, and blew off the driveway. If the need arises I will certainly use HL Design again. I would also reccommend HL Design to others."

"They arrived on time every day. Worked very neat, placing protective covering on floor, carpet and exterior surfaces they came in contact with. Best of all the job was well done with no issues. Extremely happy with this project, as anyone who has done home improvements you know it can be stressful. This project had zero stress! Highly recommend."

"Looking for a high quality, reasonably priced, and hassle free shed installation? Look no further than Deck and Shed Pros. I live in Montgomery County which requires a permit and inspection for all shed installations. I didn’t know where to start, but Deck and Shed Pros took care of everything with ease. Jen is a pleasure to work with, is very knowledgeable in everything the company does, and keeps everything moving forward. Jim is great to work with and makes sure everything gets done right. They even let you know the status of your project weekly, even if they are just waiting for materials. On top of this, their installation teams are top notch. I cannot not recommend Deck and Shed Pros highly enough and plan on using them for future deck/hardscaping projects. This company is run they way you wish all companies would do business."

Asphalt Driveways FAQs, answered by experts

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

Depending on project size, typically 1 to 3 days, including preparation and installation.

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.
