"Joe and the crew from E Stanley did a great job widening our driveway. The job consisted of three parts. First, dig under the existing driveway and remove the roots that were growing underneath. Second, dig a couple of feet on both sides of our existing driveway to widen it out. Finally, pour asphalt on top of the driveway to replace the old one. Joe came in at the best price and finish the entire job in a single day.."

"We recently had out stone driveway and walkway completly redone because over the years the stones moved/shifted. We also had four retainer walls power washed. We hired Brothers Pavers to do the job. God, did they do an excellent job. They are fully aware of what stone work needs to be done, how to do it, they had all the equipment, men, and they always came on time and stayed late to ensure the work was completed in a timely manner. We were also impressed that the owner, Jose, was able and willing to answer any of our questions and to do any additional work we wanted done without any big discussions. In addition, their pricing was far better then any commercial company I had over to do an estimate. If you need stone work done, PLEASE call Jose Espinal at 240-398-2081. He and his crew will exceed your expectations!!"

"Finally a contractor that delivered what they promised! Bravo did an excellent job. I got multiple estimates I’m so happy that I went with them. They were professional and a fair price. Looking at my driveway I can tell how much pride they take in their work which means a lot to me since I’m totally remodeling a house a purchased and had really bad experiences with contractors. What stood out the most is it called for no rain but at completion they were about to leave but he actually stayed for over an hour just to see if the rain was coming after it got cloudy he put down plastic. Will be calling them back to do my backyard patio. Money very well spent."

"Quality work and Cody was easy to work with. Team fast and efficient and clearly works well together. Completed driveway job in about 3 hours and cleaned up job site. Mine was a residential job requiring repaving to original footprint. Resurface neatly tied in garage apron, walkway and street. Very professional job by a professional team."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.

Yes, you can retrofit an existing driveway, but this usually involves cutting grooves into the driveway, installing the heating elements, then sealing them. While this is much less expensive than typical heated driveway systems, the final appearance could be diminished. Speak with a driveway paving company to confirm which design method is best for you.

When hiring an asphalt paving contractor to install your driveway, ask as many questions up front as possible. Here are a few questions to ask a prospective driveway contractor:

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you have worker’s compensation?

  • Do you use subcontractors on your projects?

  • Do you clean up after the job is done?

  • Who is responsible for any damage to lawn or landscaping?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Do you give free estimates?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three references?

  • Can I see some of the work you’ve done?

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.
