"I have worked with S&S on multiple projects for over a year, I am a Community Association Manager and manage 14 communities, including mid-rise condo buildings, townhomes, and single-family communities. I rely on having highly reliable, multi-disciplined contractors. S&S is, without a doubt, the best I have ever worked with in over 15 years of property management. They have responded to flooded condominiums that affect multiple units and common areas, to severely damaged roofs (both in townhomes and mid-rise buildings), to simple plumbing, electrical, and ceiling/drywall repairs. They expertly install cabinetry, flooring, window - whatever you need. They even fix squeaky doors that nobody else can. They have pressure-washed and re-caulked 5-story buildings, lifted sinking sidewalks. I could go on and on. They have their mitigation certification for water. mold and fire, they can do both the mitigation and rebuild. They have all of the necessary drying equipment, and have a 24-hour-a-day, ready-to-go trailer, so they can respond to disaster calls more quickly than any larger mitigation company I have worked with. They are also expert users of Xatimate, the software required by insurance companies for claims. I have used their mitigation and rebuild services more than a dozen times in the past year. I should also mention that they have an extremely capable, full-time crew, so the work gets done quickly. Whether you need a new roof, a porch, a new kitchen or bathroom, or smaller projects - S&S should always be your first call!"

"If you, or someone you know is in need of construction, Iâ m highly recommend General Contractor, Charles Weyer owner of CMI Construction Group. Long story shortâ ¦..My husband was in search for a construction company to help remodel part of our kitchen. He called about 3 or 4 companies, left voice messages, but no one ever returned our calls. Very frustrating. However, by the Grace of the Lord, upon returning to our vehicle at Home Depot lot, we noticed a business card left on our vehicle that said CMI Construction. I said to my husband, what were the chances!!! It felt like a mini Christmas miracle! My husband called, and about an hour later, Charles of CMI Construction returned his call!! Charles came the same day to look over the project. He started the next day. To shorten this post, Iâ m condensing Charles Weyer work traits. He was here 8 hours, and this is what I observed⠦⠦.Charles attention to detail is awesome, Work ethics are outstanding, very professional, Returns calls, takes pride in his work, Polite, offers suggestions, arrives on time, hard worker, cleaned up his workspace very well. At the end of the job, I heard Charles ask my husband if he was happy with his work. Then proceeded to say, if you are not happy with the outcome of my work, my job is not finished, I want you to be happy. My husband, and I are extremely happy with his workmanship, and that is saying a lot as my husband is very picky. He is new to the area, and looking to build clientele. You can read other reviews from Home Advisor. Got 5.0 rating! Give him a chance, you wonâ t be sorry. Cell Number: 443.617.3778"

"They repaired a deck that had been hit by a large tree top. While gathering estimates for the work I was very pleased to see the level of detail they offered regarding the needed repair. Ultimately, I chose them because they located an issue with the deck that was not picked up by the other contractors. At the end of the project I found their workmanship to be quite good. They were punctual, friendly, and had great ideas with regarding to the repair. I will definitely recommend them to neighbors and friends. In addition, I have already spoken with them about completing other projects at our home."

Customers say: Quick response

"Paul Davis Restoration of Delmarva built my composite deck on a challenging work site. The new deck has custom steps, ramp, and benches. The deck skirting is unique and gorgeous. We are extremely pleased with the design and workmanship and have received many compliments from friends and neighbors. I want to thank Brian Rush, Josh, Brittney, and Christina. I especially want to thank Brian Pittman and his crew, Collin and Shawn. It was a pleasure dealing with everyone at Paul Davis."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

When choosing a drywall anchor, consider the weight of the object you're hanging and how much weight the anchor will need to support. The heavier the weight, the stronger the anchor you'll need. You’ll find the weight capacity on the packaging when shopping for anchors.

Also, remember that you can use more than one anchor when hanging something on the wall. If you're using multiple anchors, divide the object weight by the number of anchors to determine how much each will need to support. If you need help deciding which drywall anchor to use, you can hire a handyperson to hang your objects.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.
