"I quoted the customer an hourly rate for the work to be preformed on the initial phone call and again on the intial visit. I made a couple of repairs at that time. I did not charge the customer for those repairs, at that time or on the final bill. One of the repairs that needed to be done, required special roofing shingles that were not available locally. I scheduled for a second visit. It took three roofing supply houses to match the existing roof shingle to make the repair. Before I made the second visit, the customer called and wanted to add another repair to the list, the faucet. On the second visit after I had made the initial repair to the roof, I looked at the faucet in question and saw that the issue was not underneath but on top. I showed the customer, by giving him the flashlight, so that he could see that the problem was not underneath the sink, but on top, and he agreed. The customer asked where we were at money wise and I gave him the figure as to where we were at, at that point in time. The customer gave the okay to proceed further in time, to ascertain the true cause of the wiggly faucet. When I opened up the faucet from above, it was apparent that the faucet was worn out and, by design of the manufacturer, could not be fixed. I showed the customer the design flaw in the faucet. In order to correct the problem, the faucet needed to be replaced, because it could not be fixed. The customer declined having the faucet replaced due to budget constraints. I put the faucet back together and moved on to the final repair on the list and completed that repair. The customer was a little chatty during the repair time, so I subtracted that amount of time that we had talked and the time spent discussing another problem in his plumbing system from the work time and he was not charged for either of those time frames. The customer was not charged for the time to travel to the three roofing supply houses to match the roofing. The customer was well aware of the fact, that the faucet could not be fixed but needed to be replaced, which he had declined doing so when told this. I feel that I have done my work honestly and efficiently to the best of my ability. I tried to insure that this job, just as with every job that I do, was done in a manner that cost the customer the least amount possible in these tough economic times. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me."
