"The crew that replaced the deck was prompt and did a high quality job. They evidently though did not speak fluent English. The project manager and office manager of Deck Soldier answered all of my questions, but could have done a better job communicating on their own initiative what the crew was planning to do the next day when they left for the day while the job was in progress. All in all, though, we're very pleased with the new deck and I would Deck Soldier an A grade for the job. It was expensive, but you get what you pay for and I would recommend them"

"I am happy with the work but it took at least 2.5 hours longer than expected so the price was more than I had expected. The technician was very friendly and professional and the end result was quality. The one downside is I feel it took too long to do the 3 projects I had gotten the quotes for. But overall I am happy and I would probably use this service again."

You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.
